Members of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) have been working for nearly a decade(!) to develop electronic monitoring standards. At their meeting this week in Fiji, countries should seize their chance to finally get the job done by: 1) Adopting robust EM standards and minimum data fields that ensure countries are effectively collecting the right information to support both science and compliance 2) Requiring that members meet ALL the EM requirements in order to receive quota increases 3) Agreeing to collaborate over the next year to develop the details of a Commission EM program that will define the roles and responsibilities of the Secretariat and the Members and ensure that EM information is verified and audited
