The Steering Committee members of eLTER PLUS, PPP and EnRich projects started their annual meeting in Rome today. The atmosphere was intense but in a good way, the participants were deeply engaged and willing to collaborate. Discussions on critical issues as well as constructive brainstorming on current and future challenges marked the day. During a special exercise the group produced SWOT analysis cards with thoughts about the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for eLTER. Well done everyone! ?? #eLTERcommunity #keyactor #environmental #science

The study by Ohnemus et. al examined whether the existing network is fit to capture critical shifts in climate and land use across the continent. The researchers introduced novel metrics to assess climate and land use change pressures on ecosystems. The study found that regions with large projected precipitation changes, such as the Southern Iberian Peninsula, Poland, and Fennoscandia, are underrepresented in the current eLTER RI network. By incorporating future environmental projections, the eLTER RI can enhance its ability to monitor and support policy responses to climate change. Read more: https://lnkd.in/g9tb5pv2

Reminder on the CZOs special issue in Hydrological Processes (Wiley): https://lnkd.in/evYUfZra ?? ?? ?? ?? ??? We are very happy to invite you to submit your #CriticalZone papers to our Special Issue before the end of August 2025: "Critical Zone Observatories Promoting Short- and Long-Term Research at the Cross-Road of Disciplines and Scales" After two decades of research in Critical Zone Observatories (#CZOs), this special issue invites publications focusing on CZ processes carried out in CZOs across the globe (among many others: eLTER, IR-OZCAR, TERENO, CZEN, ...). We particularly welcome studies combining different disciplines to better understand the intricated processes of the CZ, through experiments, cross-site studies, long-term monitoring, and modeling approaches. We invite studies leveraging existing CZOs networks with a particular emphasis on interdisciplinary studies, including those that describe and quantify anthropogenic impacts on CZ ecological services and key resources (e.g., #water, #soil). Your paper will be received by a team of guest editors from different specialties within CZ sciences : Jean Mar?ais, Nicole Fernandez, Jannis Groh, @Pamela Sullivan, and Damien Jougnot For the details, look at the official page for the call for paper:?https://lnkd.in/evYUfZra We look forward to your contributions!
