When community and government work together, California thrives! On Tuesday, the Chuckwalla and Sáttítla Highlands National Monuments were officially designated by President Joe Biden. These new monuments will protect over 800,000 acres in California. El Sol NEC was deeply honored to be invited to attend the ceremony at the White House and to honor the community partners who worked tirelessly to advocate for these designations and Secretary Deb Haaland. The Chuckwalla National Monument, located south of Joshua Tree National Park, protects vital desert areas that seven Tribes have long called for preserving. This designation will honor Tribal sovereignty, support the local economy, and ensure continued access to nature for nearby communities.
