As we observe National Diabetes Awareness Month and Type 1 Day on November 1st, we’re grateful for those making a difference and working toward identifying a cure. One of those people is Elmore's own, Angela Roland. Her story is a testament to the power of hope, perseverance, and community. Supporting Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) is deeply personal to Angela and her family. Since her daughter’s Type 1 diabetes diagnosis in 2013, they’ve faced a life-changing journey of learning, adapting, and confronting daily challenges together. Through volunteering, fundraising, and serving as ambassadors, Angela and her family have found purpose and hope, not only for a cure but also in supporting other families navigating similar paths. Every step forward feels personal, and they are proud to contribute toward a future without Type 1 diabetes. Learn more about Breakthrough T1D at breakthrought1d.org

In honor of the International Quilt Festival held annually in Houston, we're celebrating the artistry and heritage woven into every quilt. One quilter on our team, Cynthia Hurrington, draws inspiration from the remarkable Gee’s Bend quilts and the African American women who pioneered this tradition of modern art that has captivated generations. Cynthia admires the bold, improvisational style of the Gee’s Bend quilters and carries that spirit into her work. Using heirloom sewing machines passed down through her family, each project connects her craft to the legacy of resilient and creative women in her own family. Do you have a creative outlet that connects you with a community or tradition? Share your story in the comments! ????
