For the third consecutive year, they are the top-performing school in the region. Bulungula College has achieved an outstanding 98% Matric pass rate?for 2024, with incredible results across all subjects. Congratulations to the students, teachers, the team at Bulungula Incubator, and their community on this wonderful achievement!
As a holdover of Apartheid-era policies, there was no high school in our region. The only option for learners to continue their education was to "gxamesa"—leave home and rent far away to attend secondary school. Most families couldn’t afford this, and as a result, 95% of learners in our community dropped out before completing high school. When we opened Bulungula College in 2019 as the first high school in our area, the idea of a free, zero-fee school was completely unheard of. Stories of fake schools in South Africa fueled distrust, and families were sceptical about whether Bulungula College was legitimate. Recruiting learners was a significant challenge for us at the beginning. When we opened our doors, we struggled to fill our classrooms; some learners even walked out on the first day. For the first two years, we worked tirelessly to prove ourselves. By 2021, when our first Matric class graduated, the tide started to turn. The school gained recognition, but our 100% Matric pass rate in 2022 solidified our reputation. Parents and learners began to see Bulungula College as a legitimate, high-quality school. Today, Bulungula College is the top-performing school in our region for the 3rd year in a row, achieving an incredible 98% Matric pass rate in 2024. We’ve come a long way, proving that excellence is possible despite circumstances. Photos: No-Ofisi Primary School before collapsing in 2007. Local and international health and vaccine researchers, innovators, and experts gathered at in Cape Town for the inaugural day of a three-day transformative mRNA Technology Transfer Programme summit. This event sets the stage for discussions aimed at enhancing vaccine production capabilities across low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The Programme, jointly established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and MPP, collaborates with a consortium of partners including Afrigen, Biovac, the Department of Science and Innovation, and ELMA grantee partner the South African Medical Research Council.
