  • In recognition of International Women’s Day - we want honor the strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere. At Ellis Porter, we are especially inspired by the women who shape our workplace, our communities, and our world - including the incredible women we work with; both within our team and in the immigrant communities we serve. Women, and particularly immigrant women, face unique challenges as they build new lives in unfamiliar places. Whether they are pursuing careers, starting businesses, advocating for their families, or breaking barriers in their industries, these women demonstrate extraordinary perseverance. Their journeys remind us why the fight for gender equality must also include advocating for the rights and opportunities of immigrant women. While we celebrate progress, we also recognize that true gender equality is still a work in progress. How are we trying to drive change? Supporting & Elevating Women’s Voices: Whether through mentorship, leadership opportunities, or policy changes, we must ensure women, especially those from underrepresented communities, have the platforms they deserve. Breaking Down Barriers: Immigration policies, workplace biases, and systemic inequities can disproportionately impact women. We must continue advocating for fair and inclusive policies that allow all women to succeed. Fostering Inclusive Workplaces: Creating environments where women feel valued, respected, and empowered to grow is key to meaningful progress. Recognizing the Contributions of Female Immigrants: From healthcare to technology, education to entrepreneurship, immigrant women are shaping our communities in powerful ways. Their voices and achievements deserve recognition and support. At Ellis Porter, we are continuously committed to creating a culture where women have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. We celebrate their contributions, but more importantly, we recommit to making gender equality a reality. #InternationalWomensDay

  • WE ?? IMMIGRANTS “When immigrants leave their homes and families behind to start anew in a foreign land, their love for one another serves as an anchor that helps them weather the challenges they face. This love is often strengthened by the difficulties of adapting to a new culture, language, and way of life. Immigrant love is also a powerful agent for change, as it helps to bridge divides between different cultures and communities, creating a more inclusive and diverse society. It’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and it is a force that can transform individuals and societies alike.” - Al’Ikens Plancher, Haitian Filmmaker

  • Today, as the nation turns its attention to the inauguration, it's important that we don't lose sight of the timeless legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He called us to be better human beings, and better Americans. To strive for justice and morality. To replace darkness with light, and overcome hate with love. But today, justice and morality does not prevail for all Americans. Racial injustice continues. Discrimination against people because of who they are and who they love continues. The demonization of immigrants continues. And not only do these injustices continue for a myriad of marginalized communities, but they are being fueled by too many individuals in power who promote darkness and hatred, and who fail to live up to the responsibilities of leadership. However, Dr. King's message reminds us that hope is a powerful force, and we all have a role to play in building a better America. To fulfill this role, we are called to be leaders in our communities who champion justice and humanity with the unwavering determination of Dr. King, and we must hold our nation's political leaders accountable to do the same. #MLKDay #Justice

  • Happy Thanksgiving, America. At Ellis Porter, we are thankful for our Porters and the privilege of being able to do meaningful work that positively impacts the immigrant clients and communities we serve. As we enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with our families and friends today, we're also thankful for all of America's farmers and agricultural workers whose hard work puts food on our tables. And let's not forget that according to the most recent National Agricultural Workers Survey (NAWS), approximately?68%?of farmworkers in the United States are immigrants, an estimated 44% of whom are undocumented and lack work authorization. All Americans should be grateful for the work they do, sometimes in the shadows, to feed our families. Instead of talking about mass deportations, let's reframe our national conversation and focus on finding practical, humane solutions to allow hard working, upstanding immigrants a legal path to stay in the US so they can continue contributing to America in ways that are good for our economy and consistent with our welcoming legacy as Americans. Interested in learning more? Check out this article from Civil Eats that spotlights just a few of the many positive stories of immigrant workers, their resilience, and their contributions to the US food system. https://lnkd.in/gyDM9jn4 #ImmigrantsMakeAmericaGreat #ThankfulForImmigrants

  • This Veterans Day, we proudly honor the courageous men and women who have served in the U.S. military - including the thousands of immigrant veterans who embodied the American dream in service of our nation. ?? Did you know that there are over 700,000 immigrant veterans living in the US? At Ellis Porter, we are inspired by the stories of immigrant veterans who served with pride, dedication, and an unwavering belief in America values. Their contributions remind us that America’s strength lies in its diversity and a shared vision of a better future. To all veterans, thank you for your service. And to immigrant veterans, thank you for choosing to serve this nation and make it stronger for us all. #VeteransDay #ImmigrantVeterans

  • At Ellis Porter, we believe in the power of immigration to enrich communities, spark innovation, and drive growth. For over twenty-one years, our firm has proudly served immigrants and the companies that employ them, witnessing firsthand the invaluable contributions immigrants make to our nation. This election, we stand firmly with candidates who welcome and support immigrants instead of demonizing them, advocate for fair and humane immigration policies that reflect America’s legacy as a nation of immigrants, and recognize that smart, strategic immigration policies can address border security while also fueling innovation and prosperity for all Americans by continuing to attract the world’s best and brightest. Ellis Porter wholeheartedly echoes the words of José Andrés—immigrant chef, humanitarian, and founder of World Central Kitchen—who reminds us that in America, “immigration is not a problem to solve, but an opportunity to seize.” Today, we urge you to vote for a future that celebrates immigration, embraces diversity, fosters inclusion, protects human rights, promotes unity, rejects hate, and safeguards the foundations of democracy. Let’s stand together and vote to move America forward. #Vote #ImmigrantsMakeAmericaGreat

  • At Ellis Porter, an important part of our mission is educating our clients and others about important immigration topics whenever we get the chance. Last week, EP Partner Anthony Mosko was invited to speak about "employment-based immigration law in everyday situations" to a group of fellow attorneys at the Joint Annual Program and Section Annual Meetings in Lansing. The session was presented as a collaboration of the Criminal, Immigration, LGBTQ+, and Litigation Sections of the State Bar of Michigan. In his talk, Anthony helped attendees better understand the legal and practical nuances involved with assessing employer visa sponsorship needs and executing successful work visa application strategies. #workvisas #employmentbasedimmigration
