This outside the box thinking allowed us to make this process change from running this part in two operations now running complete in one operation, one and done we call it! Benefits on both sides. Here at the shop it helps with easier machine scheduling and then for the customer it is a lower lead time, better transparent communication and a better quality part as it takes any human error out of the equation!

The struggles and decisions that need to be made when starting up your own machine shop can be some of the toughest challenges to experience. As there will be many more challenges to come, every one is unique and it's a matter of persevering! Very nice process improvement invloving switching inserts over to PCD from carbide to machine some abrasive plastic. Even though the PCD inserts have a higher cost it balanced out with better tool life which turned into more uptime making parts! Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) is diamond grit that has been fused together under high-pressure, high-temperature conditions in the presence of a catalytic metal. The extreme hardness, wear resistance, and thermal conductivity of diamond make it an ideal material for the cutting tools manufacturing. PCD tools can machine all non ferrous materials such as used in the woodworking industry, chipboards, HDF, laminated boards, the materials that are being used in the automotive industry to produce aluminium components and all the lightweight materials as carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), metal matrix composites (MMC) and stacks for the aircraft construction.
