You're Ready for More —Let's Get You There. No-Fluff Career Coaching for Leaders Who Want Results. Host of Hire Me Pls Podcast
I know you don't want to hear this, but... Years ago in a past life, I had a manager that used to tell me pretty much in every 1:1 meeting, "Control what you can control," I absolutely hated hearing it. It felt dismissive, like they didn’t get how overwhelming things were. If you’ve ever been told the same, I’m sure you’ve rolled your eyes too. But here’s what I didn’t realize: When you focus on things you can’t control, you’re digging yourself into a pit of worry, frustration, and anxiety. You’re wasting your energy on things that aren’t your business. It’s not your business what others think of you. It’s not your business if you got rejected and they hired someone less qualified. It’s not your business if everyone around you seems to have it all together. You’re burning energy on things you can’t change instead of focusing on what you can control. In your job search, it’s tempting to obsess over the outcome—getting the interview or why you haven’t heard back. But here’s the shift: Resilience comes from focusing on your efforts, not the results. Now read that again... FOCUS ON YOUR EFFORTS, NOT THE RESULTS! Focus on the actions you can take—whether it’s sending out applications, following up with recruiters, or refining your resume. Don’t compare yourself to others. Instead, ask yourself, “What can I do today that moves me closer to my goal?” Every action is progress. The effort you put in is something you can control, and that’s where real momentum begins. So next time you hear "Control what you can control," take it to heart. It might just be the key to your success. #JobSearch #CareerGrowth #MindsetShift #Resilience #Jobsearchtips #CareerCoach #CareerCoachingTips
