I’ve always loved museums. It took me over 10 years of working in the field to realize they didn’t love me back—at least not in the way I needed them to. As a kid in Chicago, I spent hours wandering museum galleries, dreaming of working there one day. That dream came true, but the reality wasn’t what I imagined. After earning a master’s degree, I juggled multiple jobs just to make ends meet. The overwork, underpay, and toxic cultures took a toll. Even when I finally landed my ‘dream job’ in museum education, the stress was unrelenting—panic attacks before board meetings, nights and weekends lost to work, and no room for growth. When I became a mom, it was clear something had to give. Leaving museums wasn’t easy. It felt like ending a long-term toxic relationship. But I realized my love for museums didn’t mean I had to stay in a field that wasn’t loving me back. Now, my passion is helping others navigate their own journey out of the museum world. I know how overwhelming it can feel to leave behind what feels like your identity. But I’m proof that you can build a career and life that love you back.
