Seriously, what's the deal with fluoride - is it good or bad for us?? Our Chief Dental Officer and Co-Founder Dr. Casey Lau weighs in: "I get these questions A LOT from my patients. And more and more patients are coming in refusing fluoride. I'll start by saying, in the US, fluoride is the gold standard and it is recognized by the @americandentalassociation as such to protect teeth and prevent cavities. And it is safe IF it is used as directed. So, don't eat it or use more than a pea-sized amount for adults. But here's the thing: fluoride is already in our water and our food from the water used to grow it. So, you're already getting plenty of fluoride in your body. That's why I tell my patients who don't want fluoride to opt for fluoride-free toothpaste with clinical backing, like nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA). It's a fluoride alternative for remineralizing and strengthening teeth without the potential downsides of fluoride. Plus it's totally biocompatible. I joke to my patients that you can spread @elims.oralcare toothpaste on your toast and eat it for breakfast!" Do you still use fluoride? Tell us what you think below!
