What do you get when you combine a sensory art class, a physical education class, and a donation of lightweight boxes? You get Box Day! Students enjoyed decorating and coloring boxes, building them up, and then knocking them down. Elim staff members are always finding new, creative, and therapeutic ways to engage our students, and they had a ton of fun doing so! #WeAreElim

Last week, Elim’s Pathways Program invited the Palos Park police department to the school and provided helpful training on how to work with individuals with autism in the community. They gave the officers de-escalation tactics, PECS Cards to have in their vehicles, and helpful information on how to respond to a call involving an individual with autism. The main goal for Elim staff and the police officers in these training sessions is to bridge the gap between law enforcement and autism awareness. Way to go, Pathways!
