Turn the summer slide into a summer ramp for your students! Summer programs can play an important role in student success, helping improve academic outcomes, attendance, and student well-being. Today is Day 5 of Elevo’s SEL-ebration Week in celebration of SEL Day! Each day this week, we focused on a different CASEL competency, diving deep into the basis of WASC-accredited curriculum. The last and final competency is responsible decision-making. When you’re a responsible decision-maker, you are able to make caring, constructive choices about personal behavior and social interactions in a variety of situations. You have the capacity to consider ethical standards and safety concerns. Because you can approach your decisions from a forward-thinking standpoint, you can successfully evaluate your actions’ impact on personal, social, and collective well-being. You’ll easily be able to find creative, positive solutions to issues that may arise. Day 4 of SEL Week is here! Today, we’re breaking down what it means to have strong relationship skills and how to keep your connections at the center of everything you do. Relationship skills are how we get along with others and how we form lasting friendships and connections. This includes communicating clearly, solving problems together, managing conflicts and disagreements, and standing up for ourselves and others. One of the things that we can do to improve our relationships with people, at work, at community events, in large family gatherings, parties, or other social events, is to hone in on our small talk skills. What an inspiring day filled with stories, problem-solving, and moving through expanded learning challenges together! We are grateful for all the leaders who attended and presented at our second Community of Practice. All of your insights have been incredibly valuable, and we’re already looking forward to our next convening. Some of the most memorable moments from today include: Our quote of the day: "We can't just be concerned about compliance. This is the time we need to step up and care and love. " - Michael Funk, Director of Expanded Learning Division, CDE. Our very own Dr. Kristen Henry, Ed.D.; Mike Taylor, Expanded Learning Program Coordinator, San Rafael City Schools; George Hernandez, Program Evaluation Consultant; and Mara Wold, Regional Lead, Region 5 Expanded Learning Partnerships represented the CDE’s Expanded Learning Research & Evaluation Sub Committee (RESC) and led an Expanded Learning Measurement Session. Katie Brackenridge, Whole-Child Consultant, Glen Price Group, shared the importance of internal advocacy as it relates to the power of expanded learning. Elevo's own Karin Wu, SVP of Marketing, Learning & Development, Employee Experience, and DEIB, led a session full of marketing tips designed to ensure that district leaders are aware of the happenings in their expanded learning programs. We are so grateful for everyone who attended today as none of this would be possible without your time, your contributions, and your collective energy. Together we built on the momentum of the first Expanded Learning Community of Practice, deepened the discussion, and set the course for future collaboration.
