Last month, our co-founder Tess Collard was working from Melbourne while coordinating with our team and clients in Vancouver, US and Australia —hello, 19-hour time difference! ? (while also spending time with her family and meeting her new nephew ??) If remote work has taught us anything, it’s that success comes down to structure, communication, and boundaries. Here are our top five takeaways: 1?? Time Zone Mastery ??? – Use tools like Google Calendar’s world clock or Time Zone Converter to schedule meetings at mutually reasonable hours. And when in doubt, default to over-communicating availability. 2?? Asynchronous is Your Friend ?? – Not everything needs a live meeting! Leverage Slack, Loom, and detailed emails to keep work moving without waiting for overlapping hours. 3?? Clear Boundaries = Maximum Productivity ?? – Without office hours, work can bleed into personal time. Set a clear start and stop to your day (and actually step away from your laptop!). 4?? Leverage Your Best Work Hours ? – Whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, lean into the hours when you’re naturally the most productive. Remote work is about outcomes, not clocking hours. 5?? Intentional Connection Matters ?? – Without hallway chats and coffee runs, fostering connection takes effort. Schedule virtual check-ins, voice notes, or even a casual “watercooler” chat to keep the human side of work alive. While we love to un-tether our team to allow for global remote work we acknowledge that it takes a lot from the whole team and buy-in is required at every level for it to work.
