Did you know that Native American healthcare has its origins in the War Department? From 1824 to 1849, military doctors at forts near tribal lands provided health services. Policy at the time was focused on military containment and accounting for the number of Native Americans and their locations in North America. This would have a dramatic impacts that are felt to this day; Native American patients carry the burden of generational mistrust due to past abuses which can make it difficult for them to open up to their healthcare provider or even seek out care. #ElevateMeD?
