December 2024 In 2024, the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska, unleashed its largest outburst flood on record, causing widespread damage and underscoring the need for updated flood modeling. Elevate UAS LLC was honored to assist the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities in tackling this critical issue. Tasked with capturing LiDAR and imagery data over 7,500 acres, our team faced extreme challenges: narrow weather windows, minimal daylight, and Alaska’s unpredictable fall conditions. Despite these challenges we successfully delivered the data needed to support updated flood models and help prepare for the community for future hazards.
