Do you know an 11th grader in Philadelphia who is interested in becoming an educator? Temple University Education Scholars is recruiting its 8th cohort of rising high school seniors to participate in the program during the 2025-2026 school year. The program is a year-long dual enrollment experience on Temple's Main Campus. Students study on campus every afternoon of the academic year (1:30-5 p.m.) to take college courses, receive mentorship from Temple students, engage in college readiness workshops, and receive support in college, scholarship, and financial aid applications. Learn more about this jumpstart to a post-secondary education experience and get set up for success as matriculated first-year students, wherever they decide to enroll. What a great opportunity for Philadelphia students! The School District of Philadelphia's School of the Future & Furness High School have been tapped as the first participants in the Academy at Penn — a program that aims to solve for the barriers faced by first-generation college students and children from economically disadvantaged families. The initial cohort of students of 25 students will be selected at both schools every year for four years — not the top achievers or the lowest performers, but those in the middle. The goal is to improve educational and life outcomes?for these students by providing intense, year-round academic and social and emotional supports, career exposure, and help transitioning to college and the workforce. Philadelphia-area friends and colleagues: Join us for Teach Plus PA's inaugural celebration, Empowered to Lead, Driven to Succeed, on Thursday, May 8th! The event will run from 5:30 to 8 PM at the Aramark Headquarters in Philadelphia. This event, which is being organized by our new regional advisory board members and local teachers, is our first-ever fundraising event of this kind. Particularly during this time of federal uncertainty, the work of Teach Plus PA to ensure that all Pennsylvania students -- particularly those who have been historically furthest from opportunity -- have access to a great public education is more important than ever. This cocktail-style event will celebrate the positive impact that Teach Plus PA teachers are having in our classrooms, across Philadelphia, and at the state level. We also hope to announce two very special honorees who will be recognized for their contributions to public education through policy and the arts very soon! Event sponsorship opportunities are available - if you, your organization, or someone you know might be interested in sponsoring the event, we'd be very grateful!
