    Here’s a shocker: Moving to the US can feel like stepping onto a different planet for international edtech founders. ?? When I first moved here for my MBA, I had no idea how much I’d need to adapt. Here are my 5 Challenges for Immigrant Founders in the USA ?????? 1. Losing (and finding) My Sense of Humor ?? When I first arrived, I felt I lost what had always been my superpower—my sense of humor. I was so nervous about being inappropriate that it took me years to regain confidence in my jokes. Humor is cultural, and navigating this took time. 2. Adapting to Political Correctness ?? The USA is more politically correct than many other countries, especially around specific areas like gender roles. It was a slight adjustment to align my comms and be aware of these norms. 3. The “Sandwich” Feedback Method ?? In Ukraine where I am originally from, feedback is direct. The American “sandwich” method—starting and ending with positive feedback, with criticism in the middle—felt manipulative to me, at first. With time, I got used to it, although I still prefer the straightforward style. 4. Embracing Optimism ?? The US is incredibly optimistic. This positive outlook has been refreshing and motivating, helping me embrace a more forward-thinking approach in business and life. If something isn't "Awesome", it isn't any good at all, right? 5. Accent / Name Advantage ??? You can think of your name or accent as different and bad, but guess what - it is what sets you apart. At Boston Consulting, I noticed straight away that my accent made me memorable and even opened more doors. Embrace that uniqueness! This is to say that every cultural challenge was an opportunity to grow and can be for you, too. Immigrant founders in the US marketplace: we can turn these challenges into strengths. ??
