We're happy to report that our new EDAX Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) detector is up and running. This is the perfect technique for understanding the texture and grain orientation of crystalline materials. Electron Microscopy Innovative Technologies, LLC (Emit, LLC) is now one of a select few companies that can offer EBSD as a fee for service where we can coordinate sample preparation, data collection and reporting. Our new Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) detector is up and running on our Thermo Scientific Axia ChemiSEM. For an initial trial run we are scanning a piece of aluminum foil that we all use on a daily basis. This is not the easiest sample to analyze as the sample surface is not perfectly polished, but we're getting great patterns and good indexing even from a non-ideal sample. We'll be posting more examples of better prepared samples in the coming weeks. Electron Microscopy Innovative Technologies, LLC (Emit, LLC) is now one of the few labs offering EBSD as a fee for service. With our extensive background in Materials Science and over 20 years of experience running these types of analyses, we are uniquely positioned to provide our customers this added capability.

Electron Microscopy Innovative Technologies, LLC (Emit, LLC) is eagerly awaiting the installation of our new Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) detector for our Axia ChemiSEM. For those in the aerospace, medical device, 3D printing and metal fabrication industries, EBSD is an indispensable technique. This diffraction technique is used to collect a unique diffraction pattern at every pixel of an image. Each pattern is analyzed to determine the crystalline phase and grain orientation. A colored "grain orientation map" can then be displayed.
