What an incredible time at Michigan Tech Week!!! ?? ?? https://lnkd.in/gZea6WGB! We jammed with VCs, founders, and innovative startups at the Renaissance Venture Capital UnDemo day, we learned so much on the way! Hardware startups like ours, funding can come from many sources: PO financing, debt, and patient VC capital. We’re all in for some Midwest capital!! And now, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new office in Detroit! ??? This is a modest beginning for us, but it's strategic in so many ways. With most of our suppliers based in Michigan, we're reducing our carbon footprint by manufacturing in the Midwest and shipping locally across the region. ?? We’re also excited to be hiring talent—including amazing graduates from the University of Michigan—who will join us on this journey to revolutionize energy and EV charging. ?? Lastly, stay tuned for some exciting deployment announcements in Michigan soon—few of them involving auto OEMs. ??? City of Detroit, here we come! ? #ElectricFish #MichiganTechWeek #Detroit #CleanEnergy #HiringNow #MidwestStartups

A few weeks ago, our co-founder Vince Wong had a great conversation with Maeve Allsup at Latitude Media about ElectricFish's mission to accelerate decarbonization while mitigating the effects of climate-induced grid failures. We're excited about our formal partnerships with Idaho National Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory which will further de-risk our manufacturing roadmap and bring even more differentiation to our microgrid-capable fast EV charging systems. Thank you to Reshma Singh, Shanshan Li, Ingrid Xhafa, Ryan Benitez, Jacqueline Blackburn, Benjamin Downing, and the rest of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Cradle to Commerce, Decisive Point, Berkeley Lab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology's The Engine, and OneValley teams for their support in helping us secure these impactful relationships with the National Labs. Looking forward to working with our nation's best and brightest in research and innovation! ?
The ElectricFish founding story starts like that of many other tech startups:?at a hackathon. And, like many other tech startup products, ElectricFish’s battery-integrated electric vehicle fast charger has passed through several iterations and target markets. ? But in the last year the company has notched an unusual win that it hopes will set it apart: inking a deal to use a printed circuit board developed at Argonne National Laboratory in their chargers, both unlocking bidirectional charging and reducing manufacturing costs. https://lnkd.in/gddxwpQg

I enjoyed sitting down with DISTRIBUTECH International's Editor-in-Chief John Engel to discuss ElectricFish's successes and growth trajectory since winning DTECH's Initiate Startup competition in San Diego last year ? In order to achieve our collective climate objectives we need to electrify everything, and underpinning this historic transition are our electric utilities. For startups working on accelerating electrification, DISTRIBUTECH International is the premier industry forum for connecting with electric utility stakeholders, partnering with them on their infrastructure roadmaps, and advancing innovative solutions which support resilient grid modernization. We had a blast with them this February in Orlando, and are excited to return even bigger in Dallas next year (everything's bigger in Texas, as they say ??). A few days ago, we celebrated a significant milestone at ElectricFish with the grand opening of our new facility in San Carlos. I had the pleasure of moderating our expert panel discussion on the market and future of EV infrastructure, featuring seasoned experts Baris Guzel from BMW i Ventures, Sean Saunders from kineo finance, and Lisa Lillelund from Proterra. Here’s a look at some of the insights from the discussion: Sean's perspective shed light on the financial underpinnings essential for scaling early-stage deep-tech companies, reinforcing that high-return investments come with inherent risks. He explained how Kineo Finance's early support for ElectricFish was driven by our innovative integration of energy storage with fast charging. Sean discussed the vital role of debt financing in complementing other funding sources and highlighted the importance of scalable business models. Lisa provided a hands-on view of the practical challenges and opportunities in deploying EV infrastructure. Drawing from her extensive experience with school districts and private fleets, she discussed the impact of federal and state funding, the importance of rapid deployment solutions, and the hurdles of utility approvals. Lisa emphasized the critical role of rapidly-deployable charging solutions in meeting the most critical of customer pain-points, and also shared success stories that highlight the real-world impact of these technologies. Baris's insights underscored the necessity of foresight and strategic alignment in making impactful investments in the EV sector. He emphasized the importance of solid unit economics and viable business models as drivers for the transition, regardless of election outcomes. Baris commented on the responsibility of early-stage companies to identify and mitigate their business risks, and of investors to support portfolio companies through the tough times. A huge thank you to our panelists for their invaluable contributions and to everyone who joined us. If you’re passionate about the future of mobility and clean energy, connect with us. Share your thoughts, join the conversation, and let's drive this transformation together! ? ?? ?? #EVInfrastructure #CleanEnergy #ElectricFish #Innovation #Sustainability #FutureOfMobility
