????? Here are some key EV, EV charging, & battery market updates from last week that caught our eyes: 1) Global EV sales grew 50% in February 2025 compared to February 2024, reaching 1.2M units. Europe & North America both saw 20%+ YTD increases. China led with 35% YTD growth. [via Rho Motion] 2) Public EV charging in the U.S. still has a reliability problem; 21% of drivers had problems charging vehicles at public stations in Q4 2024. Top issues include hardware issues (36%), payment problems (23%), and charging power (15%). For reference, Tesla's Superchargers offer max charging of 170 miles in 15 min. BYD’s "Super e-Platform" features a 1,000-volt architecture & 1-megawatt charging capabilities through a dual charging port system. The technology employs an "all liquid-cooled megawatt flash charging terminal system" & automotive-grade silicon carbide power chips. [via BYD, CNBC] 4) States are moving forward with their own EV infrastructure plans despite federal pullback. Illinois utility ComEd announced $100M in rebates for EV chargers. Massachusetts also passed legislation supporting charging infrastructure, including a 100-unit bidirectional charging pilot program. [via Heatmap News] 5) Waymo purportedly reached a deal with the San Francisco Airport Commission to map airport roadways, setting the stage for future robotaxi service expansion to SFO. While the vehicles will be manually driven during this mapping phase, the company already executes well over 100,000 fully autonomous, electric, paid rides weekly. [via Tech Crunch & CNBC] 6) More on the self-driving front: Nvidia unveiled multiple autonomous vehicle partnerships at its GTC conference last week, including expanded collaborations with General Motors, Gatik, Plus, Torc, & Volvo. The company also introduced "Halos," a new AI-powered safety system for autonomous vehicles. GM will use Nvidia's tech for digital twin factory simulations & future ADAS systems; autonomous trucking companies Gatik, Plus, & Torc are all targeting 2027 commercial launches using Nvidia's platforms. Perseus, a new British EV startup led by ex-Bentley & Lotus employees, announced plans to launch a compact SUV in 2027 with styling by an Italian design house. It currently only teases a blacked-out image of the vehicle with minimal details, but we're excited to see more! Electric Era launched a new software last week to decrease EV fast charging energy costs for our customers. The software dynamically schedules how and when we use charging station energy storage ??? This saves energy costs by shifting load away from peak priced times on the grid. In this test, we can see that the car plugged in during a high-energy phase of the schedule. Electric Era's software runs in real-time at the edge, so customers can get the best session reliability, prices, and driver experience.
