    15+ years as an IBEW Lineman, I use social media and workforce solutions like JNCTN to drive engagement. In today’s market, it’s not just about competing for work, but for the workforce itself.Opinions pieces are my own.

    The issue continues to escalate. We're compelled to surrender all our personal information merely to sustain ourselves, and then we rely on every business, large or small, to safeguard that data amidst their usual operations. Whether it's Taco Bell, Microsoft, or countless mom-and-pop shops, proficiency in data security is crucial; otherwise, every societal interaction becomes a potential risk to your data. Proving "who" I am has long been a challenge, but verifying "what" I am poses even greater difficulties. As a lineman, my duty is to restore damaged systems. However, in doing so, I must disclose all my personal data and credentials to aid companies coping with an influx of workers, trusting the authenticity of my documents without the luxury of verification delays. While mechanisms exist to verify my status as a journeyman lineman, they are easily circumvented, often relying on informal checks vulnerable to abuse through personal connections. #JNCTN has stepped up, drawing from their success in #NZ, and is actively developing a solution; the next step involves bringing #IBEW to the table, or #NECA- or straight to the #utility. Our industry urgently requires more robust systems. It's crucial to act now before the situation irreversibly deteriorates, particularly with storm season heightening vulnerabilities. Companies like #WRM have heeded the voices of field workers and power companies alike, personally with my experience nationwide. They are the sole solution that not only supports the office but also empowers the field. The workforce knows when WRM is used- the storms will run smoothly. Personally, I've been laboring 80-90 hours per week in Detroit, while simultaneously advocating for better solutions. In writing this as I sit in my car before yet another 16 hour day. I witness firsthand the flaws and unsafe practices, and the shortcuts we resort to due to inefficiencies in current systems. Rules that hold in normal times often falter during crises. As contract linemen, we're known for our resourcefulness; our mission is unwavering—to deliver power. Failure is not an option; just turn on your light if you need proof. At WRM, part of our Cusomter Service promise is to provide dedicated and ongoing training services to help ensure everyone using our systems is able to do so successfully, and we are thrilled to have had several opportunities to do this in-person in recent weeks.     WRM has always believed that effective training and customer service is one of the most important things we do as a company. One of our favorite things in this age of remote work is the opportunity to meet with people in person! We are very excited to be heading down South next week to work with one of our clients and their service providers to conduct some in-depth training and drills in preparation for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season!

    2024 is pacing well above average for tornadoes so far! Here are some tips to help you stay safe if severe weather is impacting your area. Top tornado safety tips: - Know the risk in your area & pay attention to local weather reports -Identify a safe place to move to in the event of severe weather -Know the signs of a tornado -Plan for your pets -Have an emergency kit ready -Staying safe in a tornado -Go to the lowest level of your building or a shelter if one is available. Stay away from doors, windows, and walls -Do not go under an overpass or bridge - you are safer in a low, flat location -Use your arms to protect your head and back -If you are caught in your car in a tornado, stay in the car with your seatbelt on and put your head down below the windows. Cover your head with a blanket or coat if possible After a tornado: -Stay clear of fallen power lines or other utility infrastructure -Wear appropriate gear during clean up - including sturdy shoes, long pants, gloves, and a mask if possible https://lnkd.in/e-WzY99G
