??Monday Literacy with Friends has a special feature today focusing on a great family engagement activity -- Building Strong Foundations for Literacy! As parents and early learning educators, it’s important to support our little ones in developing: ?? Alphabet & Print Knowledge: Recognizing letters and understanding that print carries meaning sets the stage for future reading success. ?? Spelling Their Name: Learning to spell their own name is a key milestone in literacy. It helps children recognize letters and understand the connection between spoken and written words. ?? Letter Recognition: Identifying letters by sight is one of the first steps toward reading. The Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) is an observation-based assessment tool used to measure and improve the quality of teacher-child interactions in early childhood classrooms. It's particularly relevant for evaluating school readiness and the overall development of young children and to ensure that VPK programs provide enriching and supportive environments that help children develop the skills they need for success in kindergarten and beyond. The CLASS framework plays an important role in early learning programs, as it aligns with state initiatives aimed at promoting high-quality education, especially for preschool children. ???? Our virtual storytime today was an absolute 'feast' for the imagination of 611 children! ???? Thanks to Pasco County Librarian Karen Allen, we delighted in the charming tale 'One Is a Feast for Mouse: A Thanksgiving Tale' by Judy Cox. We heard the story of a small mouse who, after a family finishes their Thanksgiving dinner, finds a single pea left on the table and decides to create a grand feast for himself by gathering tiny portions of all the leftover food, believing that "one is a feast for me." We also got a bonus lesson—saying 'Happy Thanksgiving' in sign language! ???? Here is another special treat, ELCPH is providing a fun and creative activity where children can engage with the story by creating their own Thanksgiving feast. The activity includes two documents: one with a blank Thanksgiving dinner plate, and the other with cut-out food items inspired by the story. Children can cut out their favorite foods and place them on their plate to design a personalized Thanksgiving meal. This activity encourages creativity and a connection to the themes of the story, while also providing a hands-on way to celebrate Thanksgiving!
