I wanted to talk about the lack of leadership during last night’s address to Congress, but today, there’s a leader far more deserving of our nation’s attention—Houston legend Sylvester Turner. As a Houston native, I am deeply saddened by his passing. Turner was a Texas state representative since before I was born and a friend to my family. His dedication to the people of Houston cannot be overstated. He was a beacon of hope, a champion for equality, and a leader who transformed lives—whether during his years in the Texas legislature or his two terms as our mayor. He showed us what Black leadership could be—rooted in quiet strength, humility, and an unwavering commitment to service. Even after stepping away from office, he answered the call to serve once more, stepping into the seat left by the passing of Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee last year. He didn’t have to. But he did—because duty and love for this city were in his DNA. Today, I choose to honor his selflessness, his impact, and the legacy he leaves behind. Sylvester Turner was a giant among men. May he rest in eternal power. Houston will never forget him. #Leadership #Houston #Texas

Since its debut in 1955, the Fortune 500 has tracked over 1,800 CEO arrivals and departures. https://lnkd.in/eZrpESnc However, underrepresented groups constitute a small percentage of leadership. Women hold 10.4% of CEO positions on the Fortune 500 list, accounting for some 52 companies, and a total 19 chief executives have been Black. Among the current Fortune 500 cohort, only eight companies are currently led by Black CEOs, representing 1.6% of the largest U.S. corporations. It’s a record high, but also a number that has remained flat for two years. But who are the executives behind the desk? Meet the Black CEOs running the country’s largest companies.
