El Puente was honored to take part in The The WNET Group’s TRECE Audience Development Initiative Listening Tourin Brooklyn—an important gathering focused on amplifying Latine voices in public media. As PBS’s flagship station, WNET/THIRTEEN is taking a critical step in engaging our communities to ensure our stories, struggles, and triumphs are represented authentically. In a room filled with community leaders, media professionals, and grassroots organizations, we explored the power of Latino-centric public programming and how media can better reflect and serve our people. With organizations like UPROSE, The Mexican Coalition for the Empowerment of Youth and Families, BRIC, and more, we discussed the urgent need to uplift community-driven narratives and ensure that Latine voices are not only included but centered in media conversations. Representation matters. Our histories, cultures, and perspectives deserve to be seen and heard—especially in public media, where storytelling has the power to inform, inspire, and mobilize. We’re excited to see how the TRECE Initiativegrows and look forward to continued collaboration in shaping a media landscape that truly reflects our communities. #LatineVoices #PublicMedia #RepresentationMatters #ElPuente #BrooklynLeaders #MediaForThePeople #TRECEInitiative

Join us for this event in which we will be exploring the history of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and its impact in Williamsburg and Bushwick.
Next week in Brooklyn we have two screenings of an updated version of "The Story of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway," a short documentary I created about the past, present, and future of the BQE. The film was produced by the Institute for Public Architecture and the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate as part of their ongoing project to reimagine the highway. Both events are free and open to the public! More info below. The first event is the evening of March 11th at the Center for Brooklyn History, part of the Brooklyn Public Library. The event is cosponsored by the BROOKLYN HEIGHTS ASSOCIATION INC and will feature a panel discussion with Marc Norman of NYU Schack, Nilka Martell of Loving The Bronx, Frances Lucerna of El Puente, and Michelle de la Uz of the Fifth Avenue Committee, moderated by Tiffany-Ann Taylor of the Regional Plan Association. More info and registration here: https://lnkd.in/eWwWY9hd The second event is the evening of March 13th at Green Lung Studio in Red Hook, cosponsored by Resilient Red Hook. After the screening I'll be doing a Q&A with Carlos Menchaca, fmr. member of the New York City Council. More info and registration: https://lnkd.in/est7pFcn This new version of the documentary features expert interviews from civil rights leaders, historians, and transportation planners, including Deborah Archer, Professor at New York University School of Law and President of the ACLU; Hon. Diana Reyna, fmr. Deputy Brooklyn Borough President; James Sanders, FAIA, architect and Emmy-award winning co-writer of "New York, A Documentary Film"; and Tiffany-Ann Taylor, VP of Transportation at the Regional Plan Association.
