Wonderful experience leading a grant writing workshop with the United Way this morning! Looking forward to working together to make our community stronger.
Today we held our first Community Impact workshop focused on Grant Writing. Special thanks to Jill Brewster from El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank (EPFH) for leading this session. This workshop dove deep into all things grant writing, from the dos and don'ts, writing techniques, to applying to joint applications with partners, and more.? ? Today marks an important step in our fight against hunger! El Paso County has officially passed a resolution declaring September as Hunger Action Month, bringing much-needed attention to the ongoing issue of food insecurity in our community. With 16% of Texas residents – including over one-third of children – facing hunger, it's a critical time to act. We are incredibly proud of our Director of Government Relations, Celeste A. Varela, who accepted the resolution on behalf of El Pasoans Fighting Hunger at Commissioners Court this morning. This recognition emphasizes our community’s commitment to addressing hunger and providing resources to those in need. Throughout September, we encourage everyone to get involved. Whether it’s volunteering, advocating on social media, or making a donation, every action helps ensure no one has to choose between food and other essentials like medicine, utilities, or childcare. Celebrating the Success of the Spark! Training Program Graduates We proudly hosted an emotional and uplifting graduation ceremony for 15 students of our Spark! Training Program. These dedicated individuals completed an 8-week job skills training, earning certifications in ServSafe, OSHA, Forklift, CLA, and CLT. Special thanks to Mark Mathis for an inspiring keynote speech and Wells Fargo for their generous $25,000 donation. Feeling incredibly proud and grateful today as I reflect on the amazing journey I've had with my volunteer coordinators over the past two years. From the very first coordinator who set the foundation, to her successor who carried the torch forward, and now to our current coordinator who continues to excel in the role. It's heartwarming to see how each of them has grown and made their mark in their own unique way. What's even more special is that they all keep coming back to visit their old boss!
