Our county's main water source relies on our winter snowpack. With the weather becoming more variable, we're looking at ways to secure our water supply. One such potential project is adding new water storage. #AlderCreek Reservoir is a proposed offstream high-elevation reservoir designed to help increase our local and state water storage, providing drought and flood protection. Our region was devastated by the #Caldor and #Mosquito wildfires which destroyed homes and infrastructure, degraded ecosystems, contaminated water sources, and increased #flooding risks. We found that these two #wildfires created $14.7 billion in damages to the ecosystem goods and services that our watershed provides. Understanding the economics of catastrophic wildfires is important as it can help inform investments that reduce catastrophic wildfire risk and increase post wildfire restoration. ?? We had productive meetings in Washington DC with our U.S. Representatives and Senators, the USDA Forest Service and Bureau of Reclamation to advocate for investments in our county. We spoke about several of our initiatives including establishing a comprehensive snowpack and flow monitoring network, upstream storage opportunities, and wildfire mitigation and recovery efforts on federal lands.

It was great to participate in planning for the American River Watershed Resilience Pilot Program funded by California Department of Water Resources. We appreciate the Regional Water Authority's leadership and glad to represent the headwaters in this important discussion about multi-sector water management.

Great conversations at the California Small Farm Conference hosted by Community Alliance with Family Farmers. Water is integral to #agricultural production in our county which benefits local communities and residents throughout the nation.

Protecting our water means protecting California. ?? We need a F.I.R.E. Fix now to better manage our Forests, build stronger Infrastructure, enhance Resilience against weather extremes, and protect our Ecosystems. Water agencies like EDWA are advocating for Federal funding and public-private partnerships to do just that. ????Learn more: https://bit.ly/41bEWLA
