For the first time, U.S. healthcare providers can now detect reduced ejection fraction, a key indicator of heart failure, using an Eko stethoscope during routine physical examinations. ?? Developed in collaboration with Mayo Clinic, Eko's Low EF AI marks a major milestone in the early detection of cardiovascular diseases. ??? Dr. Paul Friedman, Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, remarked: "The ability to identify a hidden, potentially life-threatening heart condition using a tool that primary care and subspecialist clinicians are familiar with — the stethoscope — can help us prevent hospitalizations and adverse events. Importantly, since a stethoscope is small and portable, this technology can be used in urban and remote locations and hopefully help address care in underserved areas." ??? In a study of nearly 3,000 patients, Eko’s Low EF AI demonstrated an AUROC of 0.85, 77.5% sensitivity and 78.3% specificity, and 98% negative predictive value, helping clinicians identify at-risk patients earlier and expedite follow-up testing. ??? “This study demonstrates how AI-enhanced digital stethoscope technology may serve as a powerful tool in identifying patients with potential heart failure earlier, enabling clinicians to take proactive steps in patient management,” said Dr. Salima Qamruddin MD, MPH, FASE, senior author, Technical Director Echocardiography laboratory, Ochsner Medical Center, and Director Women's Cardiovascular Clinic, Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute.
