Equal Justice USA joined fellow members of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights to release an open letter urging the American public to fight back against the Trump administration's threats to civil rights. TAKE THE PLEDGE to defend our rights and freedoms by engaging in specific actions, including speaking up, attending protests, contacting elected officials, supporting civil rights organizations, and sharing information about these threats: https://bit.ly/425jDeZ

EJUSA's mission is to transform the justice system by promoting responses to violence that break cycles of trauma.
关于我们
Equal Justice USA (EJUSA) is a national organization working to transform the justice system to one that heals and restores lives. We imagine a justice system that is the solution instead of the problem, and we believe that we won’t get there solely by dismantling the parts of our justice system that are broken. We must also strengthen and scale the elements that work and build the system we want in its place: one that prevents violence, heals trauma, helps people harmed by crime to rebuild their lives, creates genuine accountability instead of mass incarceration, and treats everyone fairly and equitably in the process. Our work includes ending the death penalty, strengthening programs that help crime survivors address trauma and rebuild their lives, and promoting trauma-informed responses to violence that can save lives and help heal communities. We partner with state and local organizations to provide grassroots leaders with the training, leadership development, and support they need to win campaigns and have lasting impact. Some images from Glimpse In Time — an event in South Baton Rouge with Step-Up LA, EJUSA, and many partners. South Baton Rouge is one of Louisiana’s most historic civil rights neighborhoods but also one of its most disadvantaged. This past Saturday, we honored Baton Rouge’s civil rights leaders while bringing youth together to discuss passing the torch, continuing the legacy, and being part of the change. We talked about the value of intergenerational learning and upcoming legislation that will incarcerate more young people. The youth were engaged, vocal, and even had the chance to read their heroes’ bios while in the same room with them. There was spoken word, musical performances, and more! From Josie Alexander, Senior Louisiana Strategist and Louisiana native: "I was honored to be the emcee and part of the organizing team. Today brought me hope of what our work and future looks like!"

The words we use matter. When politicians and policymakers describe people as 'heinous,' 'vile criminals,' 'evil,' 'barbaric,' or 'alien,' they aren’t just speaking in extremes. They’re laying the groundwork for policies that increase punishment, expand incarceration, and ultimately makes all of us less safe." And we've seen this before... Our leader, Jamila Hodge, asks all of us some essential questions: "But in a world where Black history itself is under attack, we must ask: Are we using this month as a true act of resistance, or has it become another bandage? A symbolic gesture that allows those in power to say, 'See? We still celebrate Black history,' while stripping away the very policies that protect Black futures?" Please read the full piece, but especially, let us resist, let us fight for true justice. https://lnkd.in/e-4uXuGS
