Empowering Delray Beach youth through civic involvement, community leadership opportunities, & volunteer opportunities.

关于我们

The Emanuel Jackson Senior Project, also known as the "EJS Project," is a 501(c)(3) grassroots organization founded in 2014 by Emanuel "Dupree" Jackson, Jr. Our goal is to make sure teens in our community of Delray Beach, FL, receive the support they need to succeed in school and in life. Our mission is to provide a safe space for teens throughout PBC while creating and empowering tomorrow’s leaders. Our teens and community deserve equity of opportunity, and thanks to the EJS Project's strong local relationships, we are able to promote change in individuals, organizations, and systems. EQUITY STATEMENT: The EJS Project acknowledges systemic disadvantages and the barriers it has created in our community. EJS is dedicated to teaching truth, challenging systems, and fighting for its youth’s access to opportunities. NEIGHBORHOOD: The SET, home of the EJS Project, is positioned between Swinton Avenue and Congress, Lake Ida Road, and Linton and is considered Delray Beach’s “vulnerable footprint” (Community Commons, 2017). Rather than low-income… minority…underserved…unsafe--the EJS Project focuses on community history, talent, pride, and collective interest and concern for one another. EJS also focuses on systemic racism that causes these conditions and allows them to flourish. PARTICIPANTS: EJS participants and their families reflect neighborhood data. Students are between the ages of 12 and 19, low-income, and primarily African American and Haitian. They reside in the Set (with a few students traveling from Boca or Boynton) and attend local middle and high schools. Our teens may be excelling in school or struggling academically/behaviorally. However, all display a desire to grow, to evolve as young change agents, and to be future leaders. Because of the grassroots nature of our organization, the program receives referrals through walk-ins, emails, social media messages, and phone calls from parents, teachers, students, and partner agencies.

Black history exists everywhere that Black community does. If you haven’t had a chance to observe Black History Month yet, we have a great resource for you. The Palm Beach County Black Cultural Heritage Trail highlights sites of cultural significance across the county—including three right here in Boynton Beach where the EJS Project is now headquartered. This interactive experience shares modern and historical photos, bringing to life the stories of Black Floridians who shaped our surroundings. We invite you to spend a few minutes reading more at PalmBeachCulture.com, or plan an afternoon visiting historical sites in your area of the county using this wonderful resource. ?? ?? An Unforgettable Evening at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum South Florida Dinner ?? We were honored to attend the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum South Florida Dinner, an inspiring event that reminded us of the importance of learning from history to shape a brighter future. Four of our amazing EJS Project students volunteered their time to support this impactful evening, and one even had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Pledge to the Future! ?? Witnessing their engagement and growth in such a meaningful setting reaffirms our mission to empower the next generation with knowledge, purpose, and action. Thank you to Julie Peyton, the museum and all involved for allowing us to be part of this powerful event. Together, we continue to honor the past and work towards a better tomorrow. #EJSProject #BoutDatAction #USHolocaustMuseum #SouthFlorida #YouthEmpowerment #HistoryMatters #PledgeToTheFuture #BuildingLeaders

We are excited to share that the EJS Project will be presenting at this year’s Beyond School Hours conference in Orlando, February 13–16! Our session, Building REAL Safe Spaces for Teens: The EJS Project’s Approach, will dive into what it truly takes to create safe spaces for teens, the common challenges organizations face, and how to overcome them. At the heart of our approach is centering the perspectives of teens, which is why we’re proud to offer 7 students the opportunity to participate in the conference. Amplifying their voices is integral to shaping meaningful change, and their participation is a key element of our ‘Bout Dat Action program—to ensure youth are always involved in conversations that affect them. We’re honored to share our experiences and insights with fellow changemakers at this inspiring event and look forward to sharing more with you in late February.
