关于我们
The Emanuel Jackson Senior Project, also known as the "EJS Project," is a 501(c)(3) grassroots organization founded in 2014 by Emanuel "Dupree" Jackson, Jr. Our goal is to make sure teens in our community of Delray Beach, FL, receive the support they need to succeed in school and in life. Our mission is to provide a safe space for teens throughout PBC while creating and empowering tomorrow’s leaders. Our teens and community deserve equity of opportunity, and thanks to the EJS Project's strong local relationships, we are able to promote change in individuals, organizations, and systems. EQUITY STATEMENT: The EJS Project acknowledges systemic disadvantages and the barriers it has created in our community. EJS is dedicated to teaching truth, challenging systems, and fighting for its youth’s access to opportunities. NEIGHBORHOOD: The SET, home of the EJS Project, is positioned between Swinton Avenue and Congress, Lake Ida Road, and Linton and is considered Delray Beach’s “vulnerable footprint” (Community Commons, 2017). Rather than low-income… minority…underserved…unsafe--the EJS Project focuses on community history, talent, pride, and collective interest and concern for one another. EJS also focuses on systemic racism that causes these conditions and allows them to flourish. PARTICIPANTS: EJS participants and their families reflect neighborhood data. Students are between the ages of 12 and 19, low-income, and primarily African American and Haitian. They reside in the Set (with a few students traveling from Boca or Boynton) and attend local middle and high schools. Our teens may be excelling in school or struggling academically/behaviorally. However, all display a desire to grow, to evolve as young change agents, and to be future leaders. Because of the grassroots nature of our organization, the program receives referrals through walk-ins, emails, social media messages, and phone calls from parents, teachers, students, and partner agencies.

There’s is nothing we love more than seeing a student reach their goals! Alumni, Samuel Sanon proved to himself that hard work really does pay off. With the help of the EJS Project’s tutoring sessions, Sam was able to leave high school with an SAT score he was proud of. "This first time I took the SAT my junior year I wasn't prepared... So, I started going to the [EJS] tutoring sessions and after the first three sessions I took the SAT again, and my score went up by over 200 points. Getting a higher score helped me with my confidence and showed my progress and how I’m willing to put the work in.” Today, Sam is thriving at Florida State University, where he was recently selected to join the executive board of “We Raise the Bars,” a student-led nonprofit that empowers minority and underprivileged youth to explore careers in law. As Volunteer Coordinator on the Public Relations team, Sam will have the opportunity to use his knowledge and determination to make a difference.

EJS Project alumnus Emanuel Thomas participated in the Teen Career Readiness Workshops during his time at EJS. The Teen Career Readiness program focuses on helping teens develop the necessary “soft skills” to succeed in the workplace through workshops on public speaking, interview skills, and more. Looking back, Emanuel reflects on how this program made a lasting impact and prepared him for a career: "I was always the type of person that never wanted to talk in front of a group of people, or just talk to people I didn’t know in general. But once we had the workshops, they opened my mind up to talking with people, and I realized how easy it is to hold conversations, public speak, and get interviewed." -- LAST CHANCE for tickets to the EJS Project's 2024 Benefit Gala on November 7th at The Addison Boca Raton. The Gala is a great way to support and celebrate the important work we do through programs like Teen Career Readiness. EJS Project alumna Kayla Lamur is currently a sophomore student at Palm Beach State College and entrepreneur: she runs her own hair styling business, Kayla's Touches. "If there was one thing I would want people to know about EJS, it would be the many opportunities they have given during my three years in the program. Without EJS, I would have never gone to Washington, D.C., I would have never learned about government, gotten a job, learned to write a resume, and so much more. I would never have just had a safe place to go after school; instead of just staying at home, bored, and not involved in anything."
