In this episode of Dyslexia Discussions & More, Dr. Tim Conway and Stephen Yearout will clarify the terminology often used in discussions about dyslexia. They’ll break down the technical jargon, identify which terms are grounded in research and science, and expose commonly used terms that may lead to misunderstanding or confusion more than clarity of what’s going on and what can be done to empower this child, teenager, college student, adult or even an older adult who struggles with dyexia. This episode will help parents, educators, clinicians and even those with dyslexia to better understand what each term means. Knowing how these terms impact options or choices about the literacy struggles of those dyslexia are equally important to understand. Lastly, this episode will explain why accurate knowledge of these terms matters & how better knowledge gives better guidance on how to empower each person’s skills, abilities and ultimately give them more control for pursuing their own goals and dreams that they want to pursue, not just ones they think they can pursue while working around their dyslexia struggles. Today at noon EDT. Bilingual Dyslexia - what is it and how can bilingual dyslexics be fully empowered, in both languages? https://lnkd.in/e9YAZNt4

Is there bilingual Dyslexia? If so, how do you improve it - one language at a time or not at all? In this episode of Dyslexia Success Stories! join Dr. Tim Conway, a renowned Neuropsychologist and published Dyslexia researcher (Science of Reading publications) as he delves into the remarkable journey of Santiago and bilingual dyslexia diagnosis and empowerment. As a teenager, Santiago was struggling with bilingual Dyslexia (Spanish & English) in Mexico City. His family, schools and teachers in Mexico did not know how to help him improve his literacy in either language. Despite facing immense challenges, his family sought out the help of Dr. Conway and The Morris Center (TMC) clinic, as a physician in Mexico knew Dr. Conway and knew of his expertise in empowering Dyslexia in English for children and adults. Thus, Santiago and his family embarked on what became a "life changing" journey from Mexico to Florida to gain the help of The Morris Center and the NOW! Programs. Despite no documented research studies existing to guide how to best empower Bilingual Dyslexia, Dr. Conway and his team of brain scientists (SLP, OT, Psych, TMC certified educators) at The Morris Center were able to successfully help Santiago empower his literacy skills in English. But, wait until you hear what happened to Santiago's literacy in Spanish too, as it was assessed in Mexico before he attended TMC and reassessed again by the same psychologist in Mexico once he returned from completing his TMC training program. In this episode, Santiago shares his personal story of perseverance and success, detailing how the innovative methods of the NOW! Programs enabled him to master both languages and thrive academically. Dr. Conway and Santiago discuss the unique aspects of bilingual dyslexia remediation and the program's impact on Santiago's continued success throughout his schooling and into adulthood. Tune in to hear a compelling narrative of resilience, empowerment, and the life-changing potential of evidence-based dyslexia intervention, even for Bilingual Dyslexia.

In this compelling episode of Dyslexia Discussions and More, join hosts Dr. Tim Conway and Stephen Yearout as they delve into the critical distinctions between evidence-based, research-based, and anecdotal claims in the world of dyslexia interventions. Dr. Tim Conway, a PhD Neuropsychologist with 38 years of expertise, has conducted federally funded randomized controlled trial research on dyslexia and post-stroke reading problems. He is widely regarded as one of the foremost dyslexia intervention experts globally. Alongside him is Stephen Yearout, a successful podcaster known for his work on "Empower Dyslexia." Both Dr. Conway and Mr. Yearout have personal and familial experiences with dyslexia, which have been successfully remediated through programs developed by Dr. Conway. In this episode, the hosts explore the importance of scientific validation in dyslexia interventions, contrasting it with claims made by publishers and dyslexia tutors. They discuss why it is crucial to rely on rigorously tested methods rather than anecdotal evidence and highlight the impact such interventions have on “closing the gap” and allowing students of all ages to read, spell and excel academically - it’s not snake oil, it’s Dyslexia Science. Tune in to gain valuable insights and make informed decisions about dyslexia treatment options that can and will help your children read and succeed. https://lnkd.in/eYjaTJvF

Join us, with live Q & A today at NOON Eastern time, as we talk with James and his mum about how he transformed his AD/HD, many diagnosed learning and developmental difficulties into new strengths in learning, language, motor, memory and academic success too. It may surprise most parents to hear that despite his significant difficulties, James did not become dependent upon assistive technology, accommodations, supports or even strategies. Join us to hear how James and his parents helped him transform his many struggles into many strengths. “James was 7 years old when we were told there was nothing more that could be done for him…” What such “doom and gloom” statements should really mean to parents is that the professional sharing that information does NOT know how to help further - you have exceeded their knowledge, training and expertise. “Every person’s progress to improve skills & abilities is ultimately limited by what the professional does or does not know. The person’s brain is not the limiting factor.” Tim Conway Clinical Scientist/Neuropsychology Every professional has a limit to their expertise and knowledge. When a professional’s expertise and knowledge is not providing improved outcomes for a person, then parents should be looking for the professional with the proper credentials, peer-reviewed research, and documented years of expertise who knows more and can help the person achieve more. Meet Mr. and Mrs. Gillette as they talk about this exact situation in regards to their son, James. At age 7 they were told that there was nothing else that could be done to help empower, James’s cognitive, sensory, motor, language, learning, and academic abilities to help him achieve at his true potential. Click here for their story from 4 years ago: https://lnkd.in/ea25VFur There certainly was more that could be done for James and thus more has been done for James with his empowerment at The Morris Centre Trinidad and Tobago Since that time of empowerment ended years ago and no more empowerment or neurodevelopmental training was needed, James has continued to achieve more, and do more on his own and his accomplishments are on par with his intellectual potential and abilities. #DyslexiaScience is life changing and evidence-based by randomized controlled trials research vetted and funded by NICHD. https://lnkd.in/eaVkX7bi
