After nearly 7 months of planning, I'm very proud to have had the opportunity to moderate a panel on cross-border legal work between India and the US during the California International Arbitration Week 2025 in Los Angeles. The panel discussed the changing perception of the Indian legal market, emerging opportunities in the technology sector, rise of Indian and Singapore-seated arbitration, handling enforcement concerns in India and building bridges between both legal communities. Some highlights: Kanishk (Uber) spoke about how a US tech company with India operations chooses external counsel, Nitesh Jain (Trilegal) spoke about what it means to be an Indian practitioner at a leading law firm partnering with US law firms, Shashank Garg addressed Indian law enforcement questions and recent changes brought about by the Arbitration Bar of India, Timothy Nelson (Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates) shared US law firms' perspectives when handling India law related disputes and Adriana Uson (Singapore International Arbitration Centre) explained how Singapore and SIAC serve as a hub for Indian parties and US-India related disputes. This truly was an international panel. All panelists took a long flight to attend and share their insights, and I'm very grateful for their time and commitment. A huge thank you to California Arbitration (CalArb) and the California Lawyers Association for organizing this event. And of course, to Marcus Salvato Quintanilla and Eimer Stahl LLP for their constant support.

In this Law360 article, Eimer Stahl attorney Vaishali Movva explores the potential of U.S.-India cross-border work and why U.S. law firms approach emerging markets with caution. Despite the strong private equity market in the Asia-Pacific region, India presents entry challenges, including Bar Council restrictions, perceptions of a complicated legal system, and, most importantly, a lack of real ground-level market knowledge. It’s worth considering the costs of missed opportunities, fostering consistent collaborations with local stakeholders, and exploring alternative ways for U.S. firms to better understand lucrative local markets to develop a well-mapped business development strategy. https://lnkd.in/gzmuvwfH
