Hello LinkedIn! We’re Emerging Innovations Consulting and we exist to empower academic entrepreneurs and early-stage startups. What does that mean? Well, we help scientists start and/or build companies based on their research. Maybe you only have an idea, but think it could the next medicine or medical device. Let’s talk about how to build a company around that idea. Or maybe you already have a company but don't know what you need to do to really get it off the ground. Let’s talk about how to build a commercialization plan, raise some money, and get things going. Regardless of where you are on your entrepreneurial journey, we’ll meet you there. We have years of experience supporting researchers in spinning out and building their startup companies. We’ve also spent time in the lab doing our own science. We know how to connect these two worlds. We can be your guide on this winding and uncertain path, helping you understand what you don’t know and giving you the resources to learn it. We care about mentoring, coaching, and just generally helping people. Let's find out if there are ways that we can help you! If you want to learn more about who we are and what we do, give us a follow and check out our website: https://lnkd.in/eziuiNdw Let’s build something big together!

Some great points about what VCs can bring to your university and how to build relationships with them!
Building Startups and Empowering Academic Entrepreneurs | Operator | Investor | Mentor | Consultant | Neuroscientist | STEM Advocate
Tuesday was a great day spent at the AUTM Annual Meeting! Got to reconnect with old friends/colleagues, listen in on some interesting sessions, and expand my network of universities. Our panel "Getting More Than Just Capital from Your VC Relationships" was also a hit! We dove into why tech transfer/licensing offices would want to establish relationships with VCs - and also how to best go about doing it. 5 major takeaways from the discussion: 1?? While there are misalignments between what motivates TTOs versus VCs, VCs do want to engage with universities to support innovation and provide feedback. 2?? In addition to capital, strong relationships with VCs bring a ton of value. Eyes on industry trends, experience building companies, expansive networks, and more! 3?? Bring people together. Get VCs in the room with inventors/founders. Curated pitch days/innovation showcases where you can match folks directly or educational events where they may come give a lecture are great places to start. 4?? Ensure VCs receive value and see quality technologies/companies by being prepared. Make sure expectations are set and that founders understand what VC is, how it works, and how to present the business case around their science for meaningful feedback. 5?? Be respectful of a VC's time! They're busy people, so proactively think about the time of day you hold an event and the needed travel time. Offer to connect them with other relevant local stakeholders as well - they like to network too! Thanks again to Susanna Harris, PhD for leading the charge in putting this panel together and to Alex Turo and Mitra Miri for driving such an engaging discussion! If you want to chat more about this topic, please reach out! I sit at the intersection of TTOs and VCs, helping researchers and founders navigate between the two. The easier we make it, the more everyone wins!

University tech transfer offices are a critical partner in translating research out of academic labs and into spinout companies. These offices often establish relationships with venture capital investors to help secure funding for their companies. However, there is so much more to leverage than just capital! Find out how you can benefit from these relationships and how to foster them at the AUTM Annual Meeting next week when our Managing Partner, Scott Alpizar, will share his thoughts on a panel entitled "Getting More Than Just Capital from Your VC Relationships" on Tuesday, March 4th at 11:00AM. He'll be sharing the stage with thought leaders from both VC and technology transfer: ?? Susanna Harris, PhD, Director of Platform at Breakout Ventures ?? Alex Turo, Life Sciences Licensing Manager at Rutgers Research ?? Mitra Miri, Principal and Osage University Partners (OUP) What you'll learn: ?? How universities can benefit from VC networks, expertise, and resources beyond financial investment. ?? Key strategies for fostering successful partnerships between academic innovators and venture firms. ?? Ways to identify opportunities and navigate common challenges in university-VC collaboration. We hope you'll join us!

Peep that logo ?? We're thrilled to have co-sponsored last night's Nucleate New York Mentor Matching event along with Elevate Research Properties! Emerging Innovations Consulting was started with a similar mission to Nucleate - to empower scientists to become entrepreneurs and accelerate promising academic technologies into commercialization. Over the last five years, Nucleate has been making an impact on researchers from all over the globe and setting then up for success in their ventures - all as a student led organization! We're excited to be deeply involved (our Managaing Partner Scott Alpizar is a Mentor and Workshop Expert for the current Activator cohort) and hope to forge a long-term partnership to help build bridges within the biotech ecosystem and support future bio-entrepreneurs!

And so it begins. Hopefully, this ends up just being a business as usual move as the new administration gets settled. However, given how backwards we've already moved in these first couple of days, and the swiftness and severity of some of these actions, I don't have a lot of faith that there won't be significant changes made coming out on the other side. This will have a crippling effect on our ability to perform the groundbreaking research needed to stay ahead as an innovative country. It will take years to come back from a significant pause or major budget cuts. https://lnkd.in/gpjZ7pd6
