Last night I had the opportunity to attend the sustainability awards in the cleaning industry, hosted by Mets? Group, to spotlight sustainability in the cleaning and hygiene sector. As someone who’s never been to an awards event before, I’ll admit I felt a bit nervous about stepping into a room full of new faces. I even thought about backing out. But I’m so glad I didn’t! Pushing past my comfort zone turned into an incredibly rewarding experience. I had the chance to meet and speak with some truly inspiring individuals- Amanda, Julia, Penelope, Adel, Aidan , Suzie and Niamh, all of whom are breaking boundaries and driving change. A huge highlight of the evening was watching Egal Pads, Inc win the Social Value Impact Award—what an amazing moment! A key topic of discussion throughout the night was the importance of making period products accessible in schools, workplace and across all events—this is a vital issue that effects half population of this world. Keys points 1??Promote Equality and Dignity: Access to period products is a basic necessity and a matter of dignity. No one should have to face stigma or embarrassment due to a lack of resources. 2??Combat Period Poverty: Many women and girls cannot afford period products, which impacts their education, work, and daily life. 3??Support in Schools and Workplaces: Period products should be freely available in schools, workplaces, and public facilities to ensure everyone has what they need, when they need it. 4??Break the Stigma: Open access and conversations about period products help normalize menstruation and dismantle long-standing taboos. 5??Health and Hygiene: Lack of access to period products can lead to poor hygiene practices, increasing the risk of infections and other health concerns. If you unexpectedly get your period while rushing for a train, would you rather: A) Ask the staff for sanitary products using a coded message, or B) Go to the toilet and get your pad from a dispenser I’m 100% sure most of us would pick B - but happy to hear other points of view… Here’s the thing: Having to track down a staff member and ask for period products is inconvenient and anything but discreet. It can take time, add stress, and isn’t always practical... Plus, if everyone knows what the code means, that alone can be enough to put some women off asking. The simplest, most effective solution, is making period products as accessible as toilet paper. They should be readily available, no questions asked. You wouldn’t make people request toilet rolls or pay a pound for them, so why should it be any different for pads and tampons? The good news is that some companies are already leading the way. Egal Pads, Inc. is making products more accessible like Pads On A Roll, and House of Sport LDN (where The Well HQ) has them available in all toilets. It’s time to stop treating women’s health and well-being as a luxury. If your workplace, gym, or public space doesn’t provide period products, why not start the conversation and suggest they do? #womenshealth?

Last year, we spoke to MA high school student Daniela about her struggles with accessing?period products?while at school. ?? Today, we congratulate Daniela on the amazing progress she’s made toward?menstrual equity?not only at her own school, but also for Massachusetts as a whole. I’ve had the privilege of being associated with Grameena Vikas Kendram (GVK Society) for over a decade, watching the organization grow from just 21 farm families to over 32,000 women farmers. It’s been an incredibly enriching journey. The amazing team, led by Aneel Kumar Ambavaram, is a testament to the positive impact GVK has created in rural India. When Niamh D'Arcy from Egal Pads, Inc reached out to me and Hayley Gannon MIWFM for support in donating sanitary napkins to women in India through a charity, I couldn’t think of a more fitting initiative. In rural India, menstrual health products remain out of reach for millions of women, either because they’re too expensive or simply unavailable in local stores. As part of GVK’s ongoing collaboration with the Commonland Foundation, we’ve distributed 900 boxes of sanitary napkins to 900 women farmers in Pachipenta Mandal, Andhra Pradesh. These sanitary napkins, developed by Egal Pads, Inc., come in a unique roll format that is both convenient and cost-effective. Each box contains 12 rolls with 40 sanitary napkins, totaling 432,000 napkins, reaching women who need them most. This initiative is aligned with GVK’s social commitment to ensuring that women farmers can participate fully and with dignity in agricultural activities that contribute to restoring our landscapes.
