This is a great networking opportunity, and one of our incredible staff members will be presenting, so this event is worth attending.
Unvented roof assemblies ('hot roofs', we used to call them) can be tricky critters. They are notorious for their inherent tendency to suffer from condensation problems. For this season's edition of BS and Beer Vermont, we'll be focused on unvented roof assemblies: their risks and benefits, how to design and install them properly, and whether there's ever a good reason to do so. VGBN Board Members Karen Bushey (VEIC) and myself will offer a brief presentation and lead the evening's discussion. We will also leave plenty of time for networking, schmoozing, and continued conversations! "Choose fierceness, not fear." One of our staff members who attended the?Northeast Organic Farming Association of VT (NOFA-VT)?this past weekend shared some great insights.?Through our work with farmers of all kinds, we know how important it is to cultivate and grow communities like this, and we hope to continue to be a part of them.
???Sowing Seeds of Resilience at the NOFA-VT Winter Conference??? On Saturday, 2/15, I had the pleasure of attending the Northeast Organic Farming Association of VT (NOFA-VT) Winter Conference at UVM, representing Efficiency Vermont. It was an emotional day, filled with insightful sessions and meaningful discussions on the future of agriculture in Vermont. As an Account Manager at Efficiency Vermont, my work revolves around supporting maple producers, greenhouses, orchards, and everything in between. While part of my job is to support farmers in their energy efficiency upgrades, the other part is to listen to their stories, fears, and dreams. Two sessions I attended at the conference deeply resonated with the stories I hear from Vermont farmers in the field: Grow Food & Farm Security Session: This session focused on climate change adaptation and food security, discussing the Food Security Roadmap to 2035 and the need for a Farm Emergency Fund. The presenters highlighted the effects of recent flooding in Vermont and strategies for building a resilient food system. Federal Policy Roundtable: Attendees from NOFA-VT and the offices of Senators Welch, Sanders, and Congresswoman Balint discussed the impact of the federal funding freeze on farmers. In summary: The impact is significant, and the fears are valid. NOFA-VT's Policy and Organizing Director, Maddie Kemper, closed with a powerful message:?Choose fierceness, not fear. The discussions were quite emotional, recognizing the unsteady waters in this market. With that said, there was an energy present that felt resilient and powerful. A huge thank you to the organizers for putting together such a fantastic event!
