If you’re on TikTok, you may have seen JT’s uplifting and positive content encouraging people to take care of their heart health. He also uses his platform to spread #HeartHealth awareness after his experiences with several heart conditions. JT was born with a heart defect called #SubaorticStenosis, undergoing his first open heart surgery at age three. Just as the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning, he found out he needed surgery to repair a leaky mitral valve and replace his aortic valve and a portion of his ascending aorta. His doctor recommended an Edwards valve for JT’s aortic valve replacement. JT’s treatment was successful, and he has since helped to raise more than $1 million for the American Heart Association. ?? We’re thankful to JT for his efforts to spread awareness about #HeartDisease and for sharing his story with us at the #PatientExperience. Gloria dedicated her life to helping others, working as an emergency room nurse before earning her MBA and taking on leadership roles in hospital administration and nonprofit social services – all while overcoming her own challenges and raising two children on her own. Throughout her life, she underwent multiple surgical procedures, including a lumpectomy and gall bladder and appendix removal. After being diagnosed with #AorticStenosis, Gloria was anxious about the prospect of yet another surgery. However, instead of an open-heart procedure, her doctor recommended a transcatheter heart valve replacement. Gloria is now back to dancing, golfing and doing what she loves. ?? Gloria joined other patients and their care partners at the #PatientExperience this spring and we’re endlessly thankful for her perspective, which will help us to continue improving our technologies for future patients. Welcome back to school, Washington Elementary! ?? We had a fun-filled morning rolling out the red carpet to cheer students on as they started their first day of classes last week. Patrick was born with a heart murmur and was told he’d never be able to play contact sports and would need regular heart check-ups throughout his life. He eventually found his passion in competitive swimming. He went on to swim for a USA Swimming club and played water polo in high school and college. During one of his regular check-ups, his care team discovered his bicuspid aortic valve needed to be replaced. Patrick and his surgeon opted for an Edwards valve. Patrick is now back to swimming and has become a certified U.S. Masters Swimming coach, competing in his first national meet since his valve replacement. ?? We’re grateful to Patrick and all the patients who attended this year’s #PatientExperience for sharing their stories, which help us improve experiences for future patients.
