What force is accelerating voluntary turnover at US employers? According to the latest from Federal Reserve Bank of New York, it sounds like fear of involuntary turnover is a likely culprit: Deep concern over the prospect of layoffs is increasing in the US workforce, a reflection of, "Satisfaction with wage compensation as well as with nonwage benefits and promotion opportunities at respondents’ current jobs [which has] deteriorated." While, "the rate of transitioning to a different employer increased to 7.1%—the highest reading since the start of the survey—from 5.3% in July 2023." Also, The proportion of individuals who reported searching for a job in the past four weeks increased to 28.4%—the highest level since March 2014—from 19.4% in July 2023." People who have jobs are searching for jobs - one sure sign of imminent voluntary turnover. We are definitely living in volatile times, and it's going to take all of us, in our respective workplaces, finding ways to reduce the fear, and conserve our teammates. #VoluntaryTurnover #EmployeeRetention #USWorkforce

Who's going to ensure that workplaces are powered by teams that are truly representative of our society? It's going to take all of us, working together - and we've been heartened to meet so many leaders who are passionate, rigorous and brilliant about creating more inclusive workplaces. CEOs and DEI leaders can help - but they cannot do it alone. It was such a pleasure and honor to be joined by Stefanie Khan, MBA, after two of her latest thought leadership speaking engagements, about her experience and insights as a #WomanInAI and #GlobalDataPowerWoman named by CDO Magazine. Please let me know your thoughts and listen in as Charlie Nguyen, Professor James Oliverio and I talk with Stefanie in our usual, "kitchen table," style. Thanks for listening and sending wishes for a smooth, interesting week, as ever!
What's inclusivity got to do with it (and by, 'it' we mean generative AI creating a more inclusive workplace)? Listen in as the EdVenturers talk with Stefanie Khan, MBA (Director of Business Intelligence & Data Analytics at UPS) and explore a range of topics centered around a more inclusive workplace and Women in AI. Stefanie (recognized as a Global Data Power Woman by CDO Magazine) discusses the use of generative AI in promoting workplace inclusivity and diversity, and the challenges faced by businesses in quantifying the progress and ROI of their DEI initiatives. Among other things we discuss addressing biases in AI systems and hiring processes, burnout rates among younger employees, and how the expectations and responsibilities placed on women also contribute to higher burnout rates. Stefanie emphasizes how stepping outside of comfort zones is essential for driving change and promoting inclusivity and diversity. Please join Charlie Nguyen, Professor James Oliverio and Jeff Nelder for, "Women in AI: Building a Forward-Thinking & Inclusive Business Culture," which you can't find at your local grocer, but you certainly CAN find on Spotify at: https://lnkd.in/gSQtUUPJ and Apple podcasts: https://lnkd.in/gfvNeUw7. #WomenInAI #AIUp #FutureofWork #USWorkforce #WomeninTech #GlobalDataPowerWoman #GlobalDataPowerWomen #DEI #Inclusivity

What do you think? We keep hearing how, "entry level jobs," are going away - but what if they are simply changing? While it's true, “A.I. will enable us to do tasks that take 10 hours in 10 seconds,” according to Jay Horine, co-head of investment banking at JPMorgan, describing analyst jobs. And history tells us that many firms will position themselves as efficient at the expense of new grads - why wouldn't generative AI simply mean that entry level is evolving? History also tells us that, as new technology increases efficiency and speed, old ways of doing things go away and new ways come into being. At EdVenture Time, Charlie Nguyen, Professor James Oliverio and Jeff Nelder are bullish on #WorkforceEvolution. Please let us know what you think. https://lnkd.in/eeY_d_8y #Workforce #GenAI #AIUp #EntryLevel #EntryLevelJobs #UniversityTalent #FutureofWork

When times are tough, we depend on the people in the foxhole next to us, not only to have our backs, but to actually make life better. With so much change in the air - whether due to genAI, sweeping social volatility, or the climate - workplace culture has never meant more to our lives and livelihood. The EdVenturers, Charlie Nguyen, Professor James Oliverio and Jeff Nelder sat down with culture champion, Shohan Rahman (Head of Strategic Sales at Square) to explore workplace culture and how productivity and community can be fostered in both the office and remote settings. Listen in to the latest episode, "Building a Workplace Culture of Community, Trust, and Productivity," as Shohan emphasizes the need for trust, open communication, and consistency in building a strong sustainable culture, and touches on the importance of diversity and authenticity in creating successful teams. This episode also explores the potential benefits and challenges of AI, the role of higher education in bridging the gap between workforce and economic development, and the confluence of technological progress and human-centered development. What?! A gender gap in ChatGPT adoption - why? Please let us know your thoughts below! Large-scale researcher surveying 100,000 members of the workforce across 11 occupations exposed to ChatGPT found that, "women are 20 percentage points less likely to use ChatGPT than men in the same occupation?" The gender gap persisted when the researchers compared coworkers within the same workplace and controlled for workers’ detailed task mixes. Thanks for the excellent newsletter and site Kevin Delaney and Jay Lauf - Charter is a truly remarkable source of thought leadership about making it work for the workforce! You can read the working paper at: https://lnkd.in/gdYM9vZj On behalf of Charlie Nguyen, James Oliverio and Jeff Nelder, thanks for following EdVenture Time!
