Serving Students with High-Impact Virtual Tutoring and Growing the Teacher Pipeline with a Diverse New Pool of Educators

Addressing Achievement Gaps and Nurturing the Teacher Pipeline: EduTutorVA was established in 2020 to address the growing learning gaps affecting Virginia’s historically underserved students. During the school closures necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic, these education gaps increased dramatically for students in Title 1 schools- public schools with low-income designations, and in particular- students of color. EduTutorVA pairs these students at-risk of falling further behind with tutors selected from local colleges and universities for free, after school virtual tutoring in core academic areas. We follow the research model of targeted high-dosage tutoring and provide students with three 60-min sessions per week, in groups no larger than three. Relationship-building and social-emotional support is at the core of each tutoring relationship. WIN-WIN: Students receive engaging lessons with grade level content and the next generation of future educators are gaining valuable experience in the field!

Exciting news to share – starting Fall of 2025, I will begin my Master of Education (M.Ed) program at Towson University. I am thrilled to embark on this next chapter of my academic and professional journey, where I will have the opportunity to deepen my knowledge, develop new skills, and grow as an educator. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Marie dolan - without her I wouldn’t have came this far! ??. As well as @EduTutorVA, Meredith Fortner and Brenda Tarquinio for giving me the opportunity to be a tutor in your program.
