Washington state students continued to lose ground on 8th grade math and 4th grade reading, according to the latest NAEP scores. “We need to buckle down, roll up our sleeves, and figure out how to squeeze more value out of the dollars we have going forward,” Marguerite Roza told Michelle Esteban,?“making sure we're targeting money where students need it the most.” Watch the full interview at KOMO News - and view WA scores & spending over time here: https://lnkd.in/gGTux_yT

NAEP truth bomb: Some states see academic progress. Many do not. Marguerite Roza: "These scores remind us that states matter when it comes to ensuring that investments deliver academic value." The 10-year trends for each state suggest a reset is needed in many to ensure that investments are delivering more for students. Looking forward, most states will see tighter funding for public education. For state leaders "the task ahead will be to find a way to leverage available dollars to deliver more value for students."
