Last week, I had the privilege of co-facilitating Oakland Post-Secondary Education & Workforce Development Collaborative’s annual Summit entitled “Voices from the Transition” alongside my colleague, the brilliant, Alda Merino-Caan. This summit brought together young adults and the organizations that serve them to envision ways to best support the post-high school journey for all of Oakland’s incredible young people. I enjoyed helping to curate a culture of community for the young adults, educators, donors and agencies while centering the voices of the young people. The future is bright because they are at the helm of possibility. We have much to learn from the next generation. Last month, I wrapped up my first year as Executive Director for ASUCR. The year was marked with learning a new professional life, integrating in a culture while simultaneously influencing it and reimagining how to do the work. One of the first things for this year is professional development for my team. More than conferences and lectures, but intentional time away from the office to reset and reconfigure. A few weeks ago, I was introduced to the tremendous work being done by Brandy Mu?iz and her team at All Peoples Community Center. I was graced to meet and support the development of their Board of Directors at their annual retreat. Having worked in nonprofit most of my career, I can tell you this Board is about impact and action. I was inspired by their willingness to get involved and connect; ensuring that the mission of APCC is undergirded by their leadership and care for the staff. Together we were able to do some Soul Work in connection to their roles as Board members. We also introduced EduLib Consulting’s approach to strategic planning. They left with not only a draft of individual strategic plans to lift APCC, but they are also well on their way to developing a solid strategic plan for the overall organization. As an LA native, I left inspired by their passion and with gratitude that our community is in good hands.

I had the great fortune of being present for and facilitating at CSUN University Student Union’s Board of Directors retreat and training last week. I was able to engage these remarkable leaders in two sessions. The first session we discussed the Soul of A Meeting which allowed them to envision the culture they wanted to set for their meetings and how parliamentary procedure can be a vehicle to help them achieve that culture. Next, we discussed what it meant to be true advocates in their role as Board Members. While we reviewed and discussed JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion) tenets, we also were intentional about developing tools to actionably practice the tenets with a heightened awareness and care. I’m sure they are going to have a remarkable year and make a great impact on their campus. Thank you for allowing EduLib Consulting to be apart of your journey.

I’m happy to share some exciting news! I have completed the requirements from the Coach Training Academy to receive two new certifications: As a Certified Executive Coach from Certified Coaches Alliance, I am trained to support Professionals and Executives. As a former executive at a non-profit, I realized how beneficial it would have been to have a coach who understood the demands of leading an organization. My ideal client is in the midst of transition and needs to search within for guidance on their next step. (New to their role, exploring new career options or stuck in making a decision) I am also a Certified Spiritual Coach from Certified Coaches Alliance! With this designation I am able to implement my Soul Work approach for individuals seeking life coaching. When a challenge is presented to a person, I lead them in an exploration of beliefs, feelings, and actions. My research confirms that there is a connection between that trifecta... the intersection of which I call the "soul". Through this work, a client will have the agency to heal their own soul with a trained coach. I am now accepting clients. I am inspired by the courageousness of the incredible people who make up the CSUN University Student Union. In a time when organizations across the country have recanted their commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, this team has enlisted the help of EduLib Consulting to develop a four phase process for evaluating the soul (culture) of their organization. In the first phase, I was graced to meet with representatives from their student employees, Board of Directors, professional staff and management team. We investigated each groups beliefs, feelings and actions regarding justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Each group’s honesty made it easier to discern the current climate of the organization. Then each group envisioned the future they were hoping to see in a dream-casting session. Next, based on the feedback from these sessions we’ll design a personalized assessment tool to gather a baseline understanding of how close they are to the culture they are hoping to experience. Honored to return to this amazing organization to help them invest in a bright future.
