We Did It! After half a year of hard work, I am thrilled to announce the successful completion of our very first EduDrive community library in Karongi District, now home to over 600 books in English, French, and Ikinyarwanda. These books cover a wide range of topics, including business, personal growth, novels, local stories, comics, languages, and educational resources for children and youth. This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from all of you. To everyone who donated, sent messages, and believed in our mission—thank you from the bottom of our hearts. ?? Although there were moments when the realization of this project seemed distant, the support from Karongi District officials—including the Mayor, Vice-Mayor, and the head of education—enabled us to push the project forward and complete it before our departure. We are also grateful to them for providing us with this beautiful location.???????? We’re beyond excited to be working alongside the amazing team at?Agati Library. Their dedication and passion have been key to bringing this dream to life. ?????? As we celebrate this achievement, we’re also looking ahead. We have hired our first full-time librarian with six years of experience in education to ensure that this space continues to thrive and serve the community for the years to come. Celebrating Our First Success in Nyabihu School for the Deaf. ???? We are thrilled to share the successful realization of our first project location at Nyabihu School for the Deaf. Thanks to your generous support, we've invested €2085 to create a vibrant library stocked with high-quality, carefully selected books, a bookshelf, and contributions of notebooks, pens, pencils, games, and toys from our amazing donors. ???? But that's not all! The school will open its doors every weekend to the entire Nyabihu community, inviting children to read, learn, and play in this new space. ???? To ensure the library's successful operation and the orderly maintenance of the books, EduDrive will provide €40 per month for at least the next 12 months, as agreed with the school, to compensate the dedicated staff, teachers, and volunteers. Together, we are building a brighter future, one book at a time. ???? We are extremely grateful and thankful to Agati Library, our trusted local partner, who helped us connect with the school, arrange transportation, provide storage space, and offer constant support in the background. Your invaluable assistance has been key to our success! ???? Moreover, we would like to thank Imagine We Rwanda and Bakame Editions, two incredible Rwandan book publishers, for their help in selecting the books that will make the biggest impact. ?? Exciting News from EduDrive! ?? We're thrilled to introduce the two locations we've chosen for our project: ?? Location 1: Nyabihu School for Deaf | Musanze District ?? Location 2: Community Youth Centre | Karongi District These locations, in desperate need of educational materials, will be transformed into vibrant libraries, equipped with books, games, and furniture. These spaces will allow children to learn, study, play, and find the inspiration to chase their dreams, just as we have pursued ours. ?? We are also excited to announce that we will soon be accepting financial donations to support our project. Our fundraising tools are set to launch by Sunday, July 16, 2024. Your contributions will help provide essential educational materials, equip libraries, and hold impactful workshops for children in Rwanda. ?? What is your WHY? One of the keys to truly succeeding in life is knowing why you do what you do. Three months ago, we both started our internships in Germany and expected a fairly uneventful half-a-year. A little later, we are already on our way back from Rwanda after kicking off our first humanitarian project on the ground. It’s hard to keep up with everything that is happening, and at times we need to pinch each other to appreciate what we’re privileged enough to experience. Through all the ups and downs, our WHY keeps us going, making difficult moments feel less difficult, and great moments feel even greater. WHY? Because we live for the moments of freedom, knowing that this is exactly what WE want to do and no one told us to. Because we can’t get enough of the smiling faces that meet our eyes when experiencing the smallest joy. Because nothing feels better than seeing the dreams we painted in our heads turn into reality. It's official! Me and?Gabriel Scherer?are realizing our own humanitarian project in Rwanda this summer of 2024.???? EduDrive?is an organization that empowers kids in Rwanda to design their own future by building small libraries, providing books, school materials, and promoting education through workshops on the ground.?? For the past 3 months, we have been working hard on building this project from scratch and so far it has been an extremely fulfilling,?eye-opening journey full of new challenges and meeting amazing people. At the moment I am writing this post I am currently in the capital of Rwanda, Kigali for our one-week preliminary visit that we will share more of very soon!???
