On Saturday, Iroquois Job Corps Outreah and Admissions staff member Marissa Aldaco took students Deshawn Knights and Naeem Moore to volunteer at the Orleans County Scarecrow Festival. Hosted by the Medina Lyons Club, the event was held at the fairgrounds. The students worked two of the “operation tables” where they put the scarecrows all together with twine and staple guns. Marissa’s husband also brought their two children to join in with the other kids in this fun annual fall event. On October 10th 2024, Leadership Orleans of Orleans County had the opportunity to speak to students around the county to get their perspectives, ideas, and suggestions on the challenges they see and how we can provide services to current students. Brandi Jordan and Unique Weeks are sitting on the far left represented Iroquois Job Corps on the panel. Brandi discussed challenges and successes in the medical field as Unique discussed the same things with the construction field. Leadership Orleans is yearlong program that allows participants the opportunity to learn more about the community while networking and collaborating with local businesses, schools, politicians, etc. The class meets once a month for a day of training and hands-on activities to improve leadership skills. Excelsior Springs Job Corps graduate Danquez Spann is now a railroad employee! Danquez graduated from the Carpentry and Transportation Communications Union (TCU) programs at ESJC and immediately started his employment with Union Pacific Railroad in North Little Rock, Arkansas, as a Mechanical Service Operator on October 14. Cars were sparkling on the Excelsior Springs Job Corps campus as the Student Government Association (SGA) held a car wash fundraiser to kick off October. The group raised more than $300, and all monies will go toward campus improvements as decided by a panel of students. Oneonta Job Corps Academy Recreation Supervisor, Mr. Ryan, presented on professionalism at his alma mater, SUNY Oneonta.
