“Witnessing the barriers families faced, Rina and her team launched programs designed to bridge gaps in literacy through the distribution of over 7,000 multicultural books and the development of “Woke Activists,” a social justice curriculum empowering students to think critically about relevant societal issues.” This case study highlights Start Lighthouse’s innovative literacy programs, showcasing their impact on students and educators alike. Through interviews with Rina Madhani and other key figures, the study delves into the organization’s approach to tackling educational inequities and the importance of culturally relevant materials in promoting literacy and inclusion.
