Laurie G. Lachance, a pathbreaking college president, economist and champion of career readiness, will be honored with the prestigious Weston L. Bonney Education Leadership Award for 2024, Educate Maine announced. The first female president of Thomas College, Lachance was also the first woman as Maine’s state economist and first female CEO of the Maine Development Foundation. She is being recognized for her achievement in both education and business and for her work making education and career training more equitable. On the final day of #NationalApprenticeshipWeek, we’re excited to share a quote from Julian, a carpentry instructor at Midcoast School of Technology. Julian's program is a certified pre-apprenticeship, linking his students with three of our Registered Apprenticeships: Block Brothers, Hay Runner, and Harbor Builders. He reflects on how connecting with these local businesses has enhanced his students' experiences by building valuable connections beyond the classroom. We are proud to be part of this growing network and excited to see how these relationships continue to create opportunities for young people across Maine!

Congratulations to Juniper Design and Build's first three Passive House Builder Apprentices! We were thrilled to visit their Peaks Island office during #NationalApprenticeshipWeek to meet the team in person and onboard Helena, Colin, and Laura. We look forward to continuing to support and collaborate with the apprentices, their mentor, Mark, and their supervisor, Mary.

Educate Maine is thrilled to announce that our first Auto Tech I Apprentice has successfully completed his program and will continue on working as a technician at Darling's Auto Group! It has been a pleasure to work with River, his mentor Jake, and supervisor Kim throughout this process.
