  • ?? Every Role Matters in Door Hardware Success ?? From specifier to installer, every professional in the supply chain plays a critical part in ensuring the right door hardware is selected and installed. When the specifier lays a strong foundation, the detailer ensures accuracy, the supplier provides quality products, and the installer brings it all together with precision, we create secure and reliable solutions. But when collaboration breaks down, the risk of incorrect hardware choices, costly delays, and even safety concerns rises. Working together ensures success every time. Let's keep the focus on teamwork! #DOITTraining #DoorHardware #SupplyChain #Specifier #Detailer #Installer #CollaborationMatters #SecuritySolutions

?? Ensuring Fire Door Compliance: The Importance of Functional Testing Did you know that proper inspection and maintenance of fire doors are critical to building safety? According to NFPA 80, functional testing is a crucial component of a fire door inspection. This ensures that the doors operate correctly in the event of a fire, providing essential protection. ?? What does NFPA 80 require? NFPA 80 mandates that both self-closing and automatic closing fire doors must undergo functional testing. Here’s what this involves: Activation Testing: The door must be tested through all means of activation. Whether it’s a manual release, a smoke detector activation, or another triggering mechanism, each method must be verified to ensure the door closes properly. Full Closure: It’s not enough for the door to start closing—it must close completely. There should be no gaps that could allow smoke or fire to pass through. Latching Hardware: Once closed, the door's latching hardware must engage fully to secure the door in the closed position. This step is crucial to maintaining the door’s integrity during a fire. ?? Why is this important? Functional testing of fire doors is not just a regulatory requirement—it’s a lifesaving measure. Ensuring that fire doors operate correctly can significantly slow the spread of fire and smoke, providing critical time for occupants to evacuate and for firefighters to respond. ?? Stay Compliant, Stay Safe Regular inspection and functional testing, as per NFPA 80, can make all the difference in an emergency. Make sure your fire doors are not only visually inspected but also fully functional. #DOITTraining #FireSafety #NFPA80 #FireDoors #BuildingSafety #Compliance #FireProtection

  • ?? Did you happen to know? The latest 2021 edition of the International Building Code (IBC) has introduced a new rule regarding door frames with terminated stops. What are terminated stops ? Terminated stops are a factory feature of a door frame, where the stops are terminated not more than 6 inches from the bottom of the door frame. They are often referred to as hospital stops. The IBC now prohibits ?? door frames with terminated stops in specific crucial locations such as elevator lobby doors and elevator hoistway doors. However, they are still allowed in other locations unless explicitly prohibited by the code. This means that door frames that are part of a fire door assembly may have terminated stops as long as they are not in these prohibited locations. The specific places where door frames with terminated stops are prohibited include enclosed elevator lobbies of underground buildings, doors at elevator hoistway door openings, enclosed fire service access elevator lobbies, and doorways to occupant evacuation elevator lobbies. #DOITTraining #FireSafety

  • ???? Fire Prevention Week: Ensuring Code Compliant Clearances Around Fire Doors ???? As we focus on fire safety during #FirePreventionWeek, it's important to remember that fire doors play a crucial role in slowing the spread of fire and smoke, giving occupants precious time to evacuate safely. However, even the best fire door won't perform as needed if it's not code-compliant. The clearance around the door is one of the most critical factors in fire door performance. According to NFPA 80, clearances must be within specific tolerances to ensure the fire door can contain fire and smoke. Excessive gaps can allow flames and toxic gases to pass through, putting lives and property at risk. Regular inspections are required to ensure continued compliance. By adhering to these standards, you're not only following the code but also helping to ensure the safety of everyone inside your building. Make fire door safety a priority—proper clearances save lives! ?? Want to learn more about fire door compliance and inspections? • ???? Don’t Prop Open Fire Doors—Save Lives! ???? During #FirePreventionWeek, it’s critical to remember that fire doors are not ordinary doors—they’re life-saving barriers designed to contain the spread of smoke and flames. Every time a fire door is propped open, the building’s fire safety system is compromised, putting people at greater risk. Whether it’s for convenience or airflow, leaving these doors open defeats their purpose. ?? Why You Shouldn’t Prop Open Fire Doors: ?? Limits Smoke Spread: Properly closed fire doors keep hallways and exit routes safe for evacuation. ?? Protects Property: Containing fire to one area minimizes overall damage. ?? Saves Lives: In an emergency, every second counts. Closed fire doors can buy crucial time for people to evacuate safely. ?? A small action like ensuring a fire door is properly closed can have a massive impact on safety. As a reminder, if you see a fire door propped open—close it! Let’s work together to make sure safety isn’t just an afterthought. ?????? #DOITTraining #FireSafety #BuildingSafety #LifeSafety #FireDoors #SafetyFirst

  • ?????? Fire Prevention Week Reminder: Fire Door Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility! Fire doors play a critical role in keeping people safe and protecting property during a fire. But these life-saving barriers only work if they’re used correctly. Here are a few important things to keep in mind: 1?? Don’t prop open fire doors – A fire door that’s propped open can’t do its job of containing smoke and fire. 2?? Don’t decorate fire doors – Items attached to a fire door can fuel a fire, making it spread faster and preventing the door from providing protection when needed most. 3?? Don’t prevent fire doors from latching – It’s crucial for fire doors to latch securely to stop fire, smoke, and dangerous gases from spreading. 4?? Don’t modify fire doors without professional guidance – Any alterations can void the fire rating, compromising the protection they provide. Always consult a qualified professional. Protecting lives starts with maintaining the integrity of your fire doors. ?? Let’s work together to ensure these critical safety features are respected and maintained! #DOITTraining #FirePreventionWeek #FireSafety #FireDoorSafety #LifeSafety #BuildingSafety
