Florida International University I recently visited Florida International University (FIU), along with other college admission counselors in my trade association, the IECA Independent Educational Consultants Association. FIU is a large public university located in Miami. FIU gets high marks for its international business program, and it is among the best in the U.S. Talented faculty are reluctant to leave that program because they want to associate themselves with that highly regarded program. Students spoke about how great the art and architecture programs are at FIU. Popular majors at FIU include political science. On-campus housing is limited; most students live off-campus. While there is a quantity shortage, the housing quality is quite good. The picture of the dorm room is supposedly the "bad dorm," which has double rooms that would easily be a triple at most colleges. Some off-campus housing is conveniently located in pricey high-rise apartments across the street from FIU. Parking is a real problem on the main campus. The lot tends to be full by 9:00 a.m., which is a significant problem at a school with a large proportion of commuters. I spent 20 minutes trying to find a spot, and then I only got it by luck, as someone pulled out. A colleague of mine parked at a distant lot and spent about 20 minutes walking to the meeting point for our tour. Miami ranks in the top five cities on the East Coast for Fortune 500 company locations. Miami has only one other college with a significant number of students, the University of Miami. Miami is not as saturated with colleges as Boston, so the competition for internships is not as fierce. #Educ8Fit #Miami #FIU
