关于我们
Education is changing, now more than ever. It is shaped by technological advancements, scientific research, demographic shifts, business interests and other socioeconomic forces that impact not just teaching and learning, but also the world in which students will enter. And education will increasingly take place not just in schools, but in homes, at work and throughout life. EdSurge is at the forefront of covering these changes and their impact and consequences. We do this through journalism, research and analysis. We also share stories that elevate the voices and experiences of educators, entrepreneurs, researchers and other stakeholders working to support equitable opportunities for all learners. Through our work, EdSurge aims to bridge the information gaps and disconnect that often exist between those who drive change, and those they impact.

The latest results from "the nation's report card" reveal a troubling trend: reading scores for 4th and 8th graders have dropped for the third consecutive assessment. Average scores have fallen to the same level as three decades ago. The gaps are widening between high and low achievers, with struggling readers falling behind fastest. A shocking 40% of fourth graders nationwide aren't reaching basic reading proficiency, with even higher percentages among Hispanic, Black, and Native American students. In Brownsville, Texas, retired teacher Dolores Perez has witnessed this firsthand. What started as tutoring a few students in 2021 has become a six-day-a-week commitment, with all her K-4 students needing reading help. "You need reading for almost everything in the world, in all other subjects. It affects every aspect of their learning to be behind," Perez explains. Experts point to pandemic disruptions as one factor, but also suggest high-quality pre-K programs could help reverse the trend. Research shows children who started pre-K at age 3 performed significantly better on 8th grade tests. The question remains: how do we ensure all children have access to the resources they need to become proficient readers? Read the full story: https://bit.ly/4ictTst
