EdSurge covers and connects the people, ideas and tools shaping the future of learning.
关于我们
Education is changing, now more than ever. It is shaped by technological advancements, scientific research, demographic shifts, business interests and other socioeconomic forces that impact not just teaching and learning, but also the world in which students will enter. And education will increasingly take place not just in schools, but in homes, at work and throughout life. EdSurge is at the forefront of covering these changes and their impact and consequences. We do this through journalism, research and analysis. We also share stories that elevate the voices and experiences of educators, entrepreneurs, researchers and other stakeholders working to support equitable opportunities for all learners. Through our work, EdSurge aims to bridge the information gaps and disconnect that often exist between those who drive change, and those they impact.

SLPs do far more than help with "R" and "S" sounds. They work on expressive language, receptive language, voice, fluency, gender-affirming speech, and even feeding and swallowing, says Debi Ryan of Huntley Community School District. ??: https://lnkd.in/gs4mecJJ

Arabic teacher Hind Haddad faced a common challenge in American classrooms: "Avoid the three taboos: sex, politics, and religion," her mentor warned. But teaching a language deeply intertwined with culture and faith while avoiding religious references created impossible barriers. When words like "Allah" were covered with sticky notes and phrases like "inshallah" (God willing) were stripped of their cultural context, the lessons became shallow and disconnected from students' lives. For Haddad's Somali immigrant students who practiced Islam, this erasure ignored critical parts of their identities. A multicultural education course transformed her approach, helping her realize that acknowledging religious contexts wasn't preaching—it was teaching language authentically. By creating classroom norms for respectful dialogue and designing identity-focused lessons, she helped students explore their migration journeys and cultural connections in Arabic. "By creating spaces where students feel seen and valued, we can foster a more inclusive learning environment," Haddad explains. ??: Read the full story: https://bit.ly/4kptFQK

[Infographic] Scaffolding in Tier 1 instruction helps all students access grade-level content by providing temporary support that is gradually removed as students gain independence. Key strategies include activating prior knowledge, pre-teaching vocabulary, using visual aids, modeling and encouraging student discourse. This approach ensures diverse learning needs are met, fostering gradual mastery of skills and promoting student success. #SponsoredContent Curriculum Associates

"These anti-literacy policies conveyed a message opposite of their intent: They convinced Black Americans of the power of the written word and made them more determined than ever to learn," Black writes in "Dangerous Learning." ??: https://lnkd.in/dzKxFpvT

??"My neurodivergence made me a better teacher, not worse." High school English teacher Fatema Elbakoury shares her powerful journey from struggling student teacher to confident educator in her fifth year. Once told she was "too timid to be hired" and wouldn't last in education, Elbakoury transformed her mental health challenges into classroom strengths. She now creates detailed lesson scripts, color-coded instructions, and student-friendly checklists—tools that help both her and her students succeed. "I now believe neurodivergent teachers are an asset to the classroom because we have direct experience with the difficulties of receiving information and processing it," she writes. When having tough days, she's transparent with students: "Sorry, you guys, Ms. E is on the struggle bus today." Her story reminds us that differences aren't burdens, they're often superpowers in disguise. ??: Read her full essay: https://bit.ly/4gXXaGr

"You have PTO you can't use because it would close a classroom," says Amy Brooks, describing the reality for early childhood teachers who lack access to substitutes.
