Thank you to everyone who attended our 3rd Annual Alumni Basketball Tournament & Fall Fest!! We enjoyed kicking off the Fall season with yall! Alumni from George Washington High School took home the trophy and $10,000 for GW!! George Washington High School will get to decide how they spend their donation. Last year, Abraham Lincoln High School used their $10K as scholarships for undocumented students. Saturday was a big day of coming together as proud alumni and giving back to our schools. There are 12 teams competing in the Alumni Basketball Tournament. Teams will be alternating play throughout the day. You can expect the championship round at around 2:00 PM! Meet Lesley D.. An Advocacy Accelerator Homie and Denver Deep Dive graduate! As part of the Socio-Economic Mobility focus group, she attended the Denver Families Issue Assembly. Denver Families for Public Schools has been conducting community research in Denver and this informed three key priority areas: 1?? Mental Health - Student’s emotional and mental well being. 2?? School Safety - Students need to feel safe in order to learn. 3?? Better Academics - Students need relevant skills in order to be successful in a rapidly changing world. Meet Langston Mayo. A Denver Public Schools alum who received his Masters degree from the University of Oregon. We believe the community can help change the way cities educate and reinvest in its Homegrown Talent. This is why we invite leaders like Langston to share their expertise with our Advocacy Accelerator Homies. During our second Advocacy Accelerator session, he joined the socioeconomic mobility group and shared some wisdom. For Langston, he envisions a Denver that is more accessible and conducive to helping Homegrown Talent define and achieve success for themselves. Our Advocacy Accelerator is heating up! Meet Jacob Pedersen. A Cohort 5 graduate of our Leadership Launchpad and he’s currently an Advocacy Accelerator Homie! Our Advocacy Accelerator Homies are divided into three groups: Post Secondary Experiences, K-12 Education, and Socio-economic mobility. Jacob is part of the Post Secondary Experiences group. Their research is about how students can be aware of the unique and quality options that go beyond traditional higher education.
