August is LIHEAP Action Month. How does LIHEAP work? LIHEAP is an essential, widely supported federal program that delivers critical short-term aid to some of our nation’s most vulnerable citizens. LIHEAP distributes funding to states, territories, and tribal governments, which in turn use the funds to help low-income households in their jurisdictions with home heating and cooling costs. Here are five facts to know about LIHEAP: 1. In fiscal year 2022, LIHEAP assisted 5.7 million households across the country. 2. The majority of households helped by LIHEAP have an annual income below $20,000. 3. Four out of five families eligible for LIHEAP aid did not receive it in 2022. 4. More than two out of five LIHEAP households include a person who is at least 60 years old. 5. Seven out of ten households helped by LIHEAP are home to a child under the age of six, an elderly resident, a veteran, or someone with a disability. #ProtectLIHEAP: https://bit.ly/4dsL0nD
